Re: Virgin Media 150Mb Coming 2014
We’ve already started upgrading our network in your area. We’ll contact you by the end of March 2014 to tell you when your speed supercharge is ready.

Just point out the bill areas have no real connection to the upgrades. Bill Areas cover multiple hubsites.

Indeed, some billing areas actually cover vast, unconnected swathes of the country. A-Machine, J-Machine, L-machine and "Remainder" comes to mind.

Re: Virgin Media 150Mb Coming 2014
I think new customers will get the new speeds as of March. This is what happened last time

Re: Virgin Media 150Mb Coming 2014
Everybody will eventually get upgraded (if you want to)... Patience folks.. Patience.. for some few months.. for some entire year..
I am getting my chance to upgrade between April to June this year... Not sure if its worth signing up for another 12 months.. Who knows maybe they will offer this upgrade later on without signing up for a contract...
I wonder when they will start to migrate to DOCSIS 3.1? Feels like 2018ish or so.. Until then they can do another ''FREE'' upgrade running on existing platform to perhaps 330Mbps (50->100 :::: 100->200 :::: 152->333)

Re: Virgin Media 150Mb Coming 2014
It's my understanding that 3.1's rollout will begin on the customer side with a new modem (Hub?) long before the network itself is upgraded. Perhaps the Superhub 3 or 4 will be a 3.1 device.

Re: Virgin Media 150Mb Coming 2014
I picked up this release on http://www.comex2000uk.com/14/press-...54/msan-update
MSAN Update
Wednesday, 8th January 2014
Comex 2000 UK Ltd are proud to have played a key part in the first BG-30 SDH/KEYMILE MSAN transmission project, working on behalf of Virgin Media and in partnership with Keymile.
Great teamwork involving Virgin Media, Keymile and Comex 2000 UK Ltd was the key enabler for the successful outcome.
The works involved initial MSAN changeovers within Street Cabinets, migrating the copper fed customers as part of the process.
This was followed up by a full SDH migration including fibre changeovers, protecting customer service at all times.

Re: Virgin Media 150Mb Coming 2014
Aggregation of bandwidth at the level 3 cabinet. This frees up fibre spectrum and would be necessary, IMO, for the higher speeds of DOCSIS 3.1.

Is that the only reason why they'd do that, though? Could that have anything to do with them simply adding more channels? We've seen a couple of new frequencies crop up lately, might be related?
Also, my (very) limited understanding of 3.1 was that it uses lots of smaller "slices" of the spectrum multiplexed together rather than a few channels, so that much more spectrum could be used and less is wasted.
