VM Backup and Storage

The computer based backup and storage application has been up the spout for around a week now.

Anyone know when it's likely to be back up and running?

Re: VM Backup and Storage

Maybe best posting the question over at the Virgin Media Support Forums?
They have a specific section for Backup and Storage.

Re: VM Backup and Storage

tbh dude VM take no pride and have no passion in the services they provide and are only interested in £££ so they are the last people you should want to trust for providing off site backups. If it is something you are serious about you should look for a company which specialise in it and have 24/7 access with a high level of redundancy.

Good discussion over here regarding off site storage;

For my tuppenceworth, I'm using Amazon S3 European storage.

why a downgrade anything is better than how it is at the moment. It has never worked for me and is very hard to navigate. ?

Re: VM Backup and Storage

A downgrade because from June it'll just be 5Gb of storage. At the moment it's unlimited.

NB: Once you've bought your storage for the first time, your first 5GB will no longer be free.
And at the prices they're charging, why would you bother? It's about the same price as Dropbox, except Dropbox works much, much better, has clients for pretty much everything and is pretty seamless. Oh and when you pay for dropbox, your "free" space is still free.

If anyone's interested, here's a shameless referrer: https://db.tt/UnwyVKuA If you sign up via that link, I get extra space permanently. If you get people to sign up with your own link, you also get space.

Man, I love dropbox.

Re: VM Backup and Storage

This is something people will have watch out for and plan ahead downloads of their existing data,

Moving your stored files across to Virgin Media Cloud is easy - just download your files from Backup & Storage to your computer, set up your Virgin Media Cloud account then upload your files. Anything that hasn't been moved by the end of May 2014 will be lost.

I have a few non-essential picture files on an ntl.com home page, I don't worry about losing them but they are linked to some forum signatures so I might need to re-point them.
I don't think it does, but I'd suggest finding a backup host for them sooner rather than later just in case Virgin does decide to pull the plug.

Re: VM Backup and Storage

This has nothing to do with Webspace, it's only the Backup and Storage data that's being talked about

Re: VM Backup and Storage

Too expensive. You can use 100GB at your own risk on Mail.ru CLOUD for free. Shame I have missed 1TB deal they had in January.

And SkyDrive (OneDrive) is pretty good and cheap as well. Wish they could offer 500GB.

Virgin Cloud should be something like 50GB for free for their customers and then whatever is higher chargeable. 5GB is only sufficient enough for university work and documents.
