Anyone else had this email? What make and model are the new units?

We've noticed that your SamKnows unit has been in use for a while now and
to ensure the data we collect is accurate, we'd like to provide you with a
brand new SamKnows unit.

Please confirm, by replying to this email, that you wish to continue on
the Broadband Performance Panel and receive a new SamKnows monitoring
unit. Once you've confirmed, we'll arrange for a new unit to be shipped...

Are you on some type of trial or possibly a volunteer for Ofcom ?? Didn't realise this was how speed test results got collated.

Yeah I've been on the trials for a couple of years, was just curious to find out if others on the trial have been offered the upgrade, or are already using the new kit.

Hi Jimmy-J,
the latest box is based on the TP-LINK white box. This will take whichever package you are on. Especially if you have the over 100.

if you are on 120Mb then perhaps they are replacing boxes. I was on the phone with them only today and they didn't say anything about renewing the boxes but who knows. George.

The white TP-Link box is ancient, even it's replacement, the black WDR-3600 has been out a year or so

I've been on SK/VM Performance trial since 2010 and actually contacted the VM/SK Liaison Trials team last year(March) pointing out that I couldn't beta-test the new Dual Band SH2 (nor the SH1 for that matter) as the old Linux monitor (and at that time none of the TP-Link SK "white box" models either) had 5GHz band!
They eventually contacted me again a couple of months later and supplied the latest TP-Link WDR 3600 "black box" Dual Band unit.

I am on a direct trial with Sam Knows, not thru VM and I still have the TP-Link white box that I had when the service started. I am on 120mb and this gets measured accurately.
