WI FI Booster
we seem to be having WIFI Problems on my familys Tablets with Authentication problem reset Router or tablet normally cures this for a while
Some days no problem.
All home use Computers are Hard wired into Dlink router no problems at all
Speed test on 60MEG Up in the 50s .
Looked on WWW Google at this problem and it seems is a common thing and what we do to reconnect is what they Say this house is old style Brick and breeze walls so Signel loss it seems is likely when walking around
so would a Signel booster be a help £10-00 or So on Ebay and is setup easy
Sky are giving away free ones to new custumers with the usual Boasts
about Virgin\bt not doing so really Sky must have Weak wifi as well .

Re: WI FI Booster
you can do a couple of things dude:
1) You can buy homeplugs (little things which you can put into power points in each room) which will extend your wireless network throughout the house and give you far better coverage. This is an example of the kind of thing you would need http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-W...less+home+plug
2) If your pcs are located in different rooms of the house and you have already got some cables running to each room you can take one of the cables running to an opposite end of the house and attach a second rouiter to it and use it as a wireless access point. The pc can retain its wired connection by connecting to the switch on the second router.
Now this is the best bit, taking into account the cost of the first option above, I would recommend doing the following which will help you out in so many ways. If your dlink router is VM supplied the chances are it is an older model with flakely wireless and 100mbits ports, so you would be looking at an upgrade in the future anyways. Soooooo, why not use your dlink as the second router/wireless ap for option 2 and let the new router act as your primary router? This router http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LINKSYS-CI...item1e7e9893ff kicks ass in every respect and not only will it have excellent wireless coverage (and may solve your problem without the need for the second router) it has simultaneous dual band, gigabit ports and loads of other cool features. I would recommend getting this and setting it up as your primary router and see what difference it makes to your wireless, and then if needs be, situate the dlink elsewhere in the house and use it as a secondary access point.
With regards to your comments about VM/BT/Sky and wi-fi, all isps have their own branded routers which they obviously want to produce as cheap as possible so anything they provide isn't going to be as good as a 3rd party router which you invest good money on yourself. The one I have recommended above originally retailed at ~£120 and really is superb. It is definitely a worth while investment which is going to revolutionise your lan.

Re: WI FI Booster
if its a self install then its as simple as unplugging your old modem, and plugging in the new one, the superhub 2 has its own wireless network built in and so wont need the dlink, all the security info is on a sticker on the bottom, the old modem will need to be sent back to virgin though they should provide a bag/box for this

Not quite true, of course. They will have to call Virgin Media to get the Superhub 2 activated.

Yeah i might be wrong but i think in the box the hub comes in, it will give you a direct number to activations to call, then you give them the mac address... fairly easy

Re: WI FI Booster
Having just been upgraded from a Shub to a Shub 2 the other day, I'll just mention one point in case it helps. Having done the install, the engineer did a few speed checks and it was pretty constant at the 40-45 mark for download. He then told me that he had heard that even if the old Shub had been deactivated, unless it was fully removed from the account it could adversely effect the download speed. He then made a phone call, discovered that the old Shub was still shown on the account (even though deactivated) got it removed altogether, did another speed check and bang, straight up to 120 download speed and no problem since.

Re: WI FI Booster
I am sorry but I don't believe that at all, it should make no difference whatsoever. You can have multiple modems/connections in your property and the only thing stopping you from doing so is that fact that VM typically limit you to one connection per household (although this was relaxed last year). If having two modems/connections halves your speed then it pretty much makes the the whole point of having two (double speed?) redundant doesn't it?

Well you may well be right, I'm nowhere near technologically knowledgeable enough to comment. All I was doing was passing on what the tech told me and what then happened as a result, just on the off chance it may assist someone in the same position.

Re: WI FI Booster
Update on the Wifi problem . obtained from E-Bay a wireless -N Wifi repeater and set about installing a case of connecting via supplied lead and ENTER 192.168.10.1 And set up passwords, this did not work on my Laptop nothing i tried worked so as last idea
tried my Vista base in other room set up screen came up at once rest was plain Sailing
entered passcode clicked connect (shows As WIFI Repeater 1) connected at once.
Setup my Tablet and was fine walked round House to check and was a marked signel
strengh better . So far wife and Daughters Tablets are ok no dicsconection.
So will now wait for Superhub 2 to arrive and instal that .

Re: WI FI Booster
One major factor that people overlook, and that the computer processor.
I have a new Sony Vaio and I hit 125meg on my 120meg connection and that's via wi-fi, I just tried my Samsung NC-10 netbook and I get 20meg.
