No chance of a Now TV app arriving in my opinion , its not in either parties interest.

The entertainment side of Now TV is all included in VM's TV packs (with the exception of Sky Atlantic) , VM makes money off selling these packs so I'm sure a Now TV app is a non starter.

Well if it did happen, they need to reduce the price for VM users as we would only gain one of the several channels offered on Now TV Entertainment package. We have all the channels except Atlantic.

This app would benefit M TV customers, does M+ give all channels (apart from SA) that Now TV does? Anybody know?

It would also enable all customers to get SA for a fiver a month. However, I do expect this to rise in the future as it seems to have been priced to initially pull the punters in. Remember when lots of people had Sky analogue installed? Once people got used to it and liked it, they started scrambling the film channels at night, then all the time, next Sky Sports was hard scrambled and then multi channels arrived where Sky 1 and even QVC was scrambled. As Sky Digital became more popular, price increases became annual at least.

I don't like sport, I was looking at it from a possible VM perspective. I don't know the ins and outs of why VM were prepared to pay what they thought BT Sport was worth and why they don't think that SA is worth what Sky want for it.

I'd say that the Now TV app would benefit everybody:

VM- SA available to their customers at no extra cost to themselves (one downside is that customers may downgrade to TV M). They could also legitimately claim that SA was now available on their platform.

Sky- VM have never allowed Sky to deal with their customers directly, this app gives them the opportunity to do that and raise extra revenue too.

VM customers- They would be able to keep the benefits of TiVo and VM BB and gain access to SA for a small (for now IMO) extra charge. Some customers have indicated that they wouldn't mind paying extra for SA. When the Sky Basics were removed, Sky wanted to retail Sky 1 etc directly to VM customers and some VM customers were in support of this, but VM wouldn't allow it.

not at a premium price that's sky asking for it as it a very poor viewed basic channel blame lies with sky's stupid asking price not VM on this one

I think that some, not you, are posting on the basis that Now TV has to offer a range of live entertainment channels and live Sky Sports passes. The version of Now TV on YouView is more like a competitor to Netflix. It just offers a range of on-demand films for £8.99 per month. No Sport, no live TV, no on-demand TV. If Now TV appeared on Tivo, I think this would be the version available.

In other news, I wonder if MGM HD could make it onto VM? It's still listed on UPC Ireland under the HD channels.

Dave,can you please enlighten us on here as to what this "stupid price" is,because up until now I have not seen any official figures and I am sure there have not been any issued (and nor should there be until any deal is struck)

Indeed a stupid price whatever it is would be where Sky are classing the channel as a premium channel and frankly that's absurd thinking but not surprising given Sky's consistent tactics of the past.

This is a good long term thinking. We are moving more and more into on demand the only thing stopping me cutting the cord is the football. By adding this on top of normal tv give a reason to keep the services.

Agreed. As well as LoveFilm and Now TV (films only) I could see Crackle, Vevo and Vimeo plus some US sports like NHL Game Center coming to Tivo. If Tivo doesn't have these then people will get a device that supports them and this could reduce their use of Tivo and eventually contribute to them leaving VM. VM needs to meet as many of their viewing needs as it can.

Which is maybe why VM have favoured football fans by adding free premium content?

But this has annoyed non football fans who are now, with increased online services, in an excellent position to cut the cord and dump Pay TV.

Richard, this is never going to happen. If VM did allow viewers to pay a premium for SA, it would be done by simply adding it to the range of their TV packages. It would not be included as a 'Now TV' app.

While you are essentially correct in saying this, it is also true to say that there was no subscription increase directly related to the addition of Setanta and then to BT Sport. That is what passingbat meant. Obviously, those costs have been absorbed elsewhere.
