What because he was 9 pence and 2 minutes out he's in dreamland, I've moaned about Arthur's inaccuracy before but if we're going to get this finicky this place is going to get very dull very quickly or was it just another excuse to have a pop at Arthur as has been your want over the last few days.

there's a big difference between £10 per hour parking (Arthur's quote) and £5 per hour parking (LS's quote)...

I agree with you that people should focus on facts (or errors in them) rather than the person involved.

I really think that councils should only be able to charge enough to cover the cost of running the service.

Many Glasgow Hospitals had ticket machines up till a couple of years ago and the nearest to me the GRI has its own multi storey car park which I am not sure if it is free.

In fact there are charges at most Glasgow hospitals

Parking at Glasgow Royal Infirmary

Glasgow Royal Infirmary only has one car park available for visitors and patients to the hospital; it is the 700+ space multi-storey car park situated next to the Accident and Emergency department.
Access to the Hospital from the MSCP can be made through the Jubilee Entrance, this will allow visitors access to all departments throughout the hospital.
Charges for parking in the car park are as follows (seven days/week):

• 8am to 6pm - £1.50/hour
• 6pm to 8am - £1.40 for the first hour and an additional £1.40 for any amount of time after the first hour (for example, £2.80 if you stay all night).
• 7 consecutive day Ticket £48
• 3 Exits Ticket (over 9 days) £25.00
• 7 Exits Ticket (over 21 days) £53.00
• 14 Exits Ticket (over 42 days) £95.00

There are also monthly parking permits available for £112.50 per month payable by direct debit.

Same at our hospitals ,which is quite surprising since i would expect the number of disabled drivers visiting a hospital to be quite high

Yes hospital parking is free in Wales, I just assumed they'd rolled that out everywhere else too by now.

Nope, it's still chargeable in several hospitals (e.g. The U.H.W. in Cardiff, the largest in Wales) until all costs incurred in building, maintaining and staffing certain carparks are recouped. And they have even extended the parking fees to other carparks close to the hospital (after putting down yellow lines all over the area of course).

We don't object to parking tickets/fines, just the underhanded tactics used by the authorities. If it was a level playing field then that would be one thing but councils often make parking expensive and/or too far from where you actually want to get to. All in a warped and over-enthusiastic effort to force us on to sub-standard public transport.

I moaned about this on Facebook earlier: I haven't taken a bus in many years but seeing as the weather was bad and I didn't feel like driving I looked in to getting a bus in to Swansea yesterday. The bus stop is about 150 yards from my house so I checked the times etc and was about to decide on it when I saw the price - £4.50 for a single therefore £9 round-trip. Petrol costs would be about £2.50.

In parts of Swansea I can park for free for 3 hours.

As such I have zero incentive to use the council's public transport.

I do around 25,000 miles a year, I don't have a problem with fines etc .

As for parking charges it's mixed some are just too expensive and public transport just seems to be completely unrealistic.

Its the most expensive part of Central London
