heat pump condensing tumble dryer

Anyone had experience of this type of dryer?
We have just brought one without reading up on heat pump dryers
Initially we went to buy a vented, then looked at condensing and walked away with a heat pump.
Wise or not?

Our last 3 washer/dryer machines have all been condensing types, I've never heard of a heat pump variety?

2 regenerators? Is it TARDIS technology?

Been having a read and they are basically a closed air condensing dryer using heat exchangers.
Apparently they use about 1/3 the electric or about 700Wh.
We do an average of 8 washes/dry's a week and the savings over 3 years vastly outweigh the initial cost (fingers crossed) of the dryer.
In the UK this type of dryer is still relativity low on the hit list of purchases but on the continent they have been around for a while.

Interesting. I'd only heard of vented/condensers until now, I'll keep an eye on it, to see if the reliability is equal to condensed, then the leccy savings make it sound attractive. Especially with 2 young uns and a 21 yr old daughter, we do rather a lot of washes/week. 12+ estimated.

Just completed first dry, set to MIX (1hr50min) 2pr jeans, 2 hoodies & a fleece, 3 t-shirts & assorted grundies/socks.
Clothes were very dry but not cooked like vented, felt softer and most of all none of them need an iron (compared against our Hotpoint VTD00 reverse action vented which we usually ran on high for 80-90 minutes)
It removed about 1.1ltr of water.
I would say its not much noisier than a vented, but the noise is different so its more noticeable.
Initially pleased with purchase.

Based on figures on the Currys website for energy usage per cycle & annual we done some calculations as to the cost including the unit over a 5 year period based on 17.1ppu which is what we pay from Npower.
So the following will be Product name - Cost of unit - Cost per 5 dry's per week - Cost per year - Overall cost inc unit over 5 years.

Beko Condens - £270 - £4.37 - £227.24 - £1406

Dont know if we just fell into the most cost effective one for 5 years but we'll be saving without a doubt

Cross between a fridge and a air-conditioning unit. Does the unit have to be plumbed in for mains water?

No doesn't need plumbing in for water, you can plumb the waste water into an outlet instead of using the usual water catchment container.

How is your machine bearing up Al?

Working fine Osem, haven't worked out how much electricity it's saving but it is, of that I'm sure. Only issue (which was in my part) was the sensor for the clothes dampness needs to be cleaned more often than the book says, using white vinegar. Now making it a part of my weekly routine has removed that issue.
