V HD Box

Hi guys,

Currently contemplating upgrading to the Premiere Collection as I want the get an additional TV box for a bedroom. Don't need recording facility so should be fine with a V HD box if they are reliable.

Never had a V HD box and just wondered what people's thoughts / reviews of these boxes were?

Cheers

Re: V HD Box

We've had one for a few years now, apart from having to reboot it every few months it has been great. The only downside is that copying from it is done in real time although you can watch TV whilst that's happening.

Oh, and the power consumption is 29W wether it's on or off!

Re: V HD Box

What system does VHD run as I presume they still don't run a non record version of TiVo?

Re: V HD Box

Had one for a long time and was perfectly fine. There's an option to put it into deep sleep which uses minimal power and can still be woken from the remote, though takes a while to boot. Still think better picture quality than the TiVo...

Sorry, I don't understand. What do you mean by "copying from it is done in real time".

What are you copying and to where?

My conclusion too but the OP is very clear that he does not want a recording box and he is looking for information on the (non-recording) V HD.

Re: V HD Box

I have had a Vhd box since they first came out about 3 years I think. The picture quality is first rate and it is very reliable, so far I have had no problems.

Re: V HD Box

Thanks for the replies guys, seems like it is a decent little box then. Think I might just wait till Xmas & New Year are out the way and then get an upgrade to Premiere.

Re: V HD Box

I like the VHD box, it's a perfect box for the bedroom. Very small, quiet and unobtrusive - I chose it over the V+ when it came to my 'free' extra box. It's a lot quicker and I find the PQ better compared to TiVo. It also has the more reliable, better quality, Catch Up from VM's servers rather than TiVos flaky version of iPlayer. If I ever do want to watch something recorded from TiVo, I've also got a wireless Av sender connection to the main TiVo box downstairs . I've then also got access to all my recordings without the noise of a hard drive in the bedroom.

Re: V HD Box

Mr K,

Thanks for the comments as that sounds exactly what I'm after, a small, unobtrusive and reliable box.

Just an additional question in relation to having the V HD installed to those with knowledge of this. I'll want it in a bedroom that currently has no cable point, am I right in thinking the installation tech will just run an an additional cable from the omni-box round the outside of my house and drill through the wall to add an additional cable point in the bedroom?

Thanks again, Superblade7

I think it depends on what's easiest, but the way you've described is how they did mine.

That's exactly how they did mine as well.
