Boot into DOS in XP flash bios

Can someone tell me how to boot into DOS so I can flash the BIOS on XP?

I've done it before but I just can't remember how I did it.
I've got Hiren 15 and I can't remember what to do.

I simply just need to get the right drive and run f.bat

Re: Boot into DOS in XP flash bios

Hit function key F8 a couple of times when booting up and you should get the menu up that allows you to boot into dos.

Re: Boot into DOS in XP flash bios

I've tried that. I don't get a DOS option. just the usual safe mode and whatever.

I've tried running Mini Windows XP from Hiren and running the bat from the USB within that, but it says can't run with EMM386.

LOL this is weird. I've asked this before on here!

I'm gonna try and find that BootCD I must have made.

what is the point of Hiren though if it won't let me boot in DOS?

Re: Boot into DOS in XP flash bios

Thanks. you've just reminded me that I made that recovery console CD for something else before so I'll find that one out.

I'm gonna try Hiren again and use one of the DOS ones, and put the files onto a USB and see if I can do it that way first.
I was leaving them on drive C: and it wouldn't show that drive.

Re: Boot into DOS in XP flash bios

Yeah sorry I forgot for a mo xp is nt kernel based, your best bet will be to see if there is a windows bios updater from your motherboard manufacturer, that will be the easiest way and will usually exist for most motherboards made in the last few years.

Make a disk/USB stick with FREEDOS and use that. Loads of places to download an image.

The laptop doesn't have the option of booting from USB. I tried Rufus earlier.

It isn't DOS it's an NT recovery console. BIOS flash applications will not work from it.

Re: Boot into DOS in XP flash bios

It can handle EXEs

It just cannot handle 16-bit DOS EXEs.

Re: Boot into DOS in XP flash bios

I can flash my BIOS from a Windows application and then reboots and completes the flash.

What board are you trying to flash?
