I agree if the govt set tax at around 9 - £10 for 50g hand rolling nobody would buy black market tobacco. The govt would probably even make money. I work with around 100+ nobody or only around 1% spoke legal fags, tobacco if they cant get no foreign stuff. I can step out and normally within 5-10 mins it is in easy access loads of choice in Gloucester.

Yeh, but the black market stuff would be around £4 for 50g then. and we'd be buying it by the pallet

I have no problem with people getting cheaper stuff more so these days life is so tough for so many i don't begrudge a vice here or there but many of the illegal cigarettes have genuine health affects that do need to be addressed. They tend to contain higher levels of the most toxic chemicals and some have even tested positive for large amounts of rat poison. I don't smoke tobacco anymore i am solidly on my ecig but i do think we have set the tax level on tobacco too high here and the old excuse of health is not really cutting it anymore when there are far more things that affect health that are not taxed to the hilt.
