The price of Netflix is the same regardless of where you access it, therefore you are paying for the access to the content and the rights holders are getting their monies.

If Netflix really didnt like VPNs then they wouldn't allow people to sign into US Netflix with their UK account.
Netflix terms and conditions say:
"You may view a movie or TV show through the Netflix service only in geographic locations where we offer our service and have licensed such movie or TV show. The content that may be available to watch will vary by geographic location. Netflix will use technologies to verify your geographic location".

If you use a device or 3rd party service to evade this restriction, your viewing is still 'unauthorised' - fooling their technology does not make it otherwise. Unauthorised access to computer data is 'hacking' and an offence under the CMA.

It is impossible to say what the sterling UK Netflix subscription rate might be if it covered the full range of content - media and tech companies are adept at differentiating markets.

To be fair this problem is not of Netflix's making - they are trying to break into a market already stitched up by others - and they are doing no more (or less) than they legally have to. However if the nasty stuff ever hits the fan, they are pretty well covered by the above, the user is not.

I have to congratulate you, the last time I saw someone whos post was as completely wrong as yours come back and try to defend it, was when OB claims Sky Atlantic is coming soon (again and again).

Surely you've been around here long enough to know that this thread covers some very diverse topics that people seem to enjoy? Especially when there is not a lot on the coming soon horizon.

It's better than people constantly posting to ask over and over again when a particular TV channel is going to launch, surely?

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 6.

You need to ring Virgin and select option 4 I think and ask them to add Netflix 6 months free. They will then send you an email which will take a few days.

My contract made no mention of Netflix. It only mentioned that there was a change to my services.

There have been numerous mentions of VPN and DNS in the past. I fail to see why people can not talk about it now.

Gunslinger has agreed there is nothing illegal about using VPNs or DNS. He has, however, shown us Netflix's T+C's and has shown us why he thinks people are illegally watching TV shows from other countries. His post has certainly made the area less grey for me than it was previously.

It would be a shame if others could not respond in their defence.

I've just done the usual round of comparisons. I actually do make use of ESPN, and to a lesser extent BT Sport, and I also have free multi room. Sky were already more expensive for me before I'd even added the cost of those extras, and BT don't appear to offer multi room or the Sky basic channels (unless someone can tell me otherwise). The Talk Talk website was playing up, which i think on reflection I'm pleased about!

That said I was reasonably impressed with BT's offer, and infinity has finally arrived in my area. It's the same price I'm paying now, with a rise due in the new year, but I'm going to swallow the Virgin price rise for now rather than attempt to re-contract for a further discount, and keep an eye on the Sky channels situation at BT. If they get them at minimal extra cost I might be off. For now I think the offer from Virgin is competitive and I'm making use of what I get for the money I pay them.
Finally got on to the talk talk website. A couple of quid cheaper than BT for a lot more channels, including the Sky basic channels, but no HD and no BT Sport.

I'm delighted infinity is now here, it means over the next year or so i should have some real choice. However, for now, and for me, Virgin offer me HD, BT Sport and the Sky basic channels all in one place, are cheaper than Sky for what I want from them and not very much more than BT or Talk Talk given the extras they offer over either of those companies once my loyalty discount is taken into account.

Without that discount, however, they're beginning to look very expensive. I know they've had a good year, but with channels continuing to be moved to lower tiers i can't help thinking that there must be something else to come. It would be really disappointing if they're relying on people not switching services-there really is so much choice now.

Im also looking forward to shortly having the luxury of choice Infinity comes to my area next year with an estimated date in early 2014 for the cab serving our house , the checker is estimating 58mb down 20mb up however I've heard it can be very conservative , what's your estimate ?

I think the Netflix terms and conditions are as such because they have to be that way to keep content providers happy. Given that Netflix could easily prevent this happening if they wanted to but don't, suggests that they don't see it as an issue. I they don't see it as an issue, why should users?

The internet has made content global and content providers are resisting this so that they can make more money. They really should have learned from the record industry and make virtually all content globally available via reasonably priced subscription services.

And what about DVD content that was only available as region 1 content and only available to buy in the US? Should I not have imported my copy of, amongst other titles, La Femme Nikita, years ago and played it on my region free modified DVD player?

54 down, 18 up, against 3 adsl. I have the 30 product from Virgin currently, and the BT estimate means I should comfortably get all 38 from BT's lowest tier infinity product which is currently plenty. Both children are small so any use they have is heavily supervised meaning the most we currently have going is two connected devices at any one time.

Do their extra channels stream, and is it counted against your download limit, do you know? We'd probably require the unlimited product if that is the case.
