Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 6.

No reason to doubt what you are saying is correct, but I would hate to think that after all the publicity from Virgin stating they do not charge for HD, they go and do it !

Of course though, only had a glimpse of BT Sport, but at least the choice to watch is there. Not sure what other channels they could add to pad it out

What I would classify as channels I have no interest in then.

HD is good, but not worth paying for, so I may well drop down a package

I have a sneaky feeling VM are upto something , a high up member of staff has told yesterday me Lovefilm may be coming to vm too.
I wonder if vm are intending to put this into the XL pack or something and if we could see VM Movies switch over to Lovefilm box office too?
Just a thought atm as 've heard LG want to concentrate on on demand and streaming services and use 3rd parties to get linar channels.

LoveFilm would be a good addition - however if both Netflix and LoveFilm charged, then they both only remain simply an "app" for some.

Bit like the Ebay app - In principal it's a good idea, in reality not good when all you can do is look !

To be honest, looked at netflix and love film, and unless you are into 2 year old movies and some box sets, don't see the point.

True, but then if you want more recent films, then you have to pay for it with Sky Movies, which in my opinion is seriously overcharged

I agree, but if the UK netflix was like the US, then there would be your alternative wouldn't it.
There is no streaming alternative to having sky movies I am afraid.

Yes there is Now TV Movie Pass which is the same Sky Movies you get on Sky and VM and only costs £8.99 a month with no 12 month contract.

Balderdash Sir as Sky Movies is okay but is overpriced and Netflix and Lovefilm are excellent and cheaper alternatives to it with plenty of content on them.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 6.

I was considering getting this purely for the Christmas period, but am struggling to understand why Sky would charge £37.50 a month for Movies, yet allow £8.99 a month for Now TV for the same channels

Someone who's really into their movies would choose Sky Movies all day , Netflix and Lovefilm are excellent services but there movies with the odd exception are generally older in fact quite a few have been on tv. Netflix and Lovefilm both have the bonus of offering boxsets of tv series.

Simple they want in on the streaming market as for differences , Now TV movies only stream at 720p as opposed to 1080i on both VM and Sky theres no 5.1 sound at the moment unlike on VM and Sky.

The SD version of Sky movies on Sky is £16. The online is cheaper, but only recently; it used to be £15. (I guess they just couldn't compete with Netflix and Lovefilm's cheaper prices).

The quality SD of Now TV via a PC is pretty bad, but some devices offer 720p. There is only stereo via Now TV. The Satellite version, even in SD. offers 5.1 audio.

You do know you can access usa Netflix by using your UK Netflix login details right? All you need is a smart dns plenty knocking around if you google it
UK Netflix does have some movies on before Sky too The hunger games , The hobbit a unexpected journey , Hansel and gretel Witch hunters come to mind.
You can't use a smart dns on tivo btw but it's easy enough to hook your laptop/pc to the tv anyway.

Ah let me think, I feel like watching Life of Pi or maybe Zero Dark 30, oh, will have to wait for netflix or Lovefilm to get them, if they even do. Don't think so.
