All Tube Ticket offices to close by 2015

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-25025888

Quote:
Every ticket office on the Tube is to shut by 2015 under plans that will see 750 jobs cut.

Transport for London (TfL) said staff will be moved from behind ticket office windows to be in the station itself helping passengers.
Can't see that going wrong at all.

Not really, I've never used a ticket office on the tube.

Why should it be chaos ,automatic ticket machines aren't exactly new ,the underground metro in Newcastle has always had ticket machines

The unions will go bonkers, as will people turning up to travel with no idea of how it works. It's not just Londoners who use the tube.

If the staff are out and about in the station, rather than behind a counter, doesn't that make them more approachable and available to react to requests for assistance?

Re: All Tube Ticket offices to close by 2015

No disrespect to Newcastle, BUT this is The London Underground we are talking about.

Crime is an everyday occurrence, and this will go up - just for example. Pickpockets, sexual offences including rape, serious assaults. Robberies.

I hope the Unions go full leather in an attempt to stop this from happening. You also have to look at the staffing situations on the tube. I work near Hanger Lane, which is a busy station during the day and could get even busier at weekends, as it is a near Wembley Stadium.

I can imagine many women may be scared to use as a means to get home. Yes, we have CCTV, but this will NOT STOP the crime taking place.

No bad move to me. I can see Bob Crow this morning on his soap box, and he WILL defend his members. Yes, everything now is electronic, but to me its a bad decision for Boris and Tfl.

I rather think that travelers from other countries will have seen automatic ticket machines before and i rather think that having a ticket office is a tad antiquated

When I went last it was mad as hell around the automated machines as it was dread to think how bad it will be when the windows close . Unless of course they build lots of new machines

Why? Do you relish disruption? Again I repeat MORE staff out and about.

.
There's not going to be more staff out and about, 750 of them are being shown the door which bob says will.decimate staffing levels

To be fair, I'm pretty sure most of the machines are multi-language now

London Underground will now go into a 90-day consultation on its proposals but says there will be no compulsory redundancies and has promised that every member of staff who wants a job and who is "ready to be flexible" will have one.

The managing director of London Underground Mike Brown, said: "All Tube stations will continue to be staffed and controlled in future, with more staff visible and available to customers."
