120mb suddenly slow last few days...
Hi,
I have a 120mb connection which I'm very happy with, usually get the max 15mb/s solid when downloading from usenet day or night.
The last few days however, it's been around 5mbs average so a third of usual. it's particularly bad this afternoon is was dropping to around 1mbs during a download. last night it seemed to improve as the night went on, i had 8mbs about 11pm...
Just now a speedtest.net put me at 36.16mbps dl and 11.55mbps upload when i usually get maxed on it
Attaching the upstream and downstream shot just taken from the hub/...
Any ideas ?

Your stats look fine. Have you got a TBB graph set up? It would be worth having a look at one.
I would wager that this is either congestion or something at your end - are you connecting wired? Do you have many devices on your network?

Just did another speedtest after rebooting the router, its now 79.87mbps dl so has vastly improved. Even though the router was only up for 10 minutes before I took the earlier test.. There's no other devices or the network and its wired.
What's a TBB graph?

Thinkbroadband let you create a graph that shows how your connection is doing. Here's mine:
It's worth setting one up - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/monitors.html
Before you do, though, you said you had a router? Try plugging your device directly into the superhub instead (then reboot the hub) and see what speeds you get.

No router, by router I meant the superhub I'll give the graph a try cheers
Now another speedtest has just put me at 42.15mbps and ping has tripled from 8 to 23

am I missing something here? I thought p2p traffic (usenet) was shaped during the weekends and especially in the evenings?

Pray you have intermittent packet loss (red) on your TBB graph as that would be an indication of an SNR fault. Otherwise you could be heading to utilisation city.
An SNR fault is often wayyy quicker to fix.

which i am so my usenet never gets shaped so speedtest results are the same as my usenet speeds
Today right now i'm downloading @ maxium 15 mb/s from usenet again so... hopefully the last few days have been an exception to the norm.
