No problems.

I just thought that these newer upgrades would have been planned a while ago . I DO know that the Uddingston UBR covers a lot of areas and would have needed a LOT of work. I have seen a lot of (road)work(s) recently nearby to enable this and was just thinking that they could have saved themselves a lot of extra work by doing it at the same time. Big companies pay a fortune by not having joined-up thinking.

Don't care to be honest. My FTTC will be ready before that, and I am off to join FTTC. Bye bye virgin media in 2014.

I agree. It's stupid to do upgrade 120Meg then 12 months later upgrade to 152Meg. Why they do it straight away? Waste of time.

flash based speedtests are heavy on cpu, but if you eg. download with a ftp client or notmal http download then anything made remotely recently should handle it.

chrome is especially bad, chrome on dual core amd which runs at over 3ghz on my spare rig cant get more than about 40mbit/sec, but IE on the same machine can. (flash speedtest).

yeah whats going on in DSL world currently with line rental is a scandal in my opinion. I have been raising my voice about it on other sites.

Typically dsl prices stay static or even drop, but line rental goes up annually and in most adverts line rental is not shown as part of the price, yet line rental is compulsory for dsl. Even worse is in latest BT price rises traditionally free services such as caller display are now having fee's applied. The runmour mill is all this is to pay for the football rights BT have obtained, as its now not just EPL football but they also now have overpaid for the champions league, bidding more than double of itv and sky. So BT retail have chose to spread the cost of BT sport across all customers, and for all xDSL isp's line rental is their new cash cow (As well as calls), even isp's like zen have jumped on the line rental bandwagon.

It's only a few weeks since the previous upgrade completed!
It's 8 months until the earliest the new upgrade could happen from.

What is the point? Sometime he is right and as someone pointed out it is hard to find predictions/assertions he has made that are definitely wrong. It's hard to prove a negative.

Also you will see conversations TC has triggered without seeing what triggered them.

Can you provide a link? All I can find is the Unlimited BT Infinity 4 package which is a FTTP (FoD) product and so has a) poor coverage b) very expensive upfront installation charge plus £50 pcm cost -- from: http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php...-surfaces.html

Re: Virgin Media 150Mb Coming 2014

That BT 330MB article was from January 2013 so looks a trial to me and you've found the latest offering ianch99.

Interesting to read from the ISP Review it is only available to around 100,000 houses right now (I call that an extended trial) and only has 20MB upload so not even 10:1, see http://www.productsandservices.bt.co...aster-internet

BT Infinity 3 (160MB max) is the equivalent product to VMs 150MB new service but even then it is down to availability.

Just checked my area on the availability link in the above web site and for my location (Nottingham NG2) I only get 45.2MB and 8MB upload which must be the best I can get from Infinity 2 in my local area.

I'm currently on a rock solid 60MB from VM and will be upgraded to 100MB next year which will probably match what I would get from Infinity 3 (160MB, but should be around 95MB for me if I only get 45 out of 76MB max on Infinity 2) if that was launched in my area as it is not available at my post code on the BT site. I note the ISP Review also stated Infinity 3 is also only available to100,000 houses so there is some way to go before BT makes these large scale viable products and they are likely to be costly for some time yet so not mass market appeal anyway I guess.

Naturally I am very happy with VM therefore!

I would agree, I can't get Infinity even though our city has been provisioned for 2+ years. Even if I could order the product, I would only get around 37/6 ..

BTW, the BT Infinity 3 and 4 products still have a large upfront install cost to get the fibre to your house from the nearest NGA (?) The report I linked implies costs that could exceed £1000 .. ouch!

Re: Virgin Media 150Mb Coming 2014

Yes that is expensive as somebody has to pay for the fibre to your house so that is us!
At that price I can only see it being purchased by ultra enthusiasts and home workers whose business will fund the link or if you work for BT (which I do but not networking/BB) you can get BT BB/Infinity for virtually fee/discounted (one of the perks of the job).

It is interesting see how even with FTTC, how that final copper link to your house can still degrade the headline speed promoted by BT even for Infinity, so always worthwhile to use the address checker and see what they declare if interesting in Infinity.

At the time it wasn't proven to be wrong but now that VM have announced their strategy for 2014 and it doesn't appear to offer either 200 down or the massive network upgrades that 100 up would involve I think we can safely say it is wrong.

If enough random predictions get made then so long as they aren't beyond the feasible as that one is on upstream some are bound to eventually prove to be correct.

I've given up putting anybody on ignore as it is indeed pointless - especially with controversial posters who get quoted and talked about.
