Can someone have a look at these stats I'm getting 2-5mb speeds for the last 2 days.

Re: Slow speed bad stats?
I've got a 3db attenuator attached to the VM router, it's just started doing this 2 days ago but noticed I have a lot of post RS errors not sure what they mean though.
I noticed last time that someone said my Power levels were a bit high for downstream levels last time I had a problem.

Re: Slow speed bad stats?
You've got a lot of uncorrectable errors which is unsurprising given your signal to noise ratio is unacceptably poor.
Your downstream power levels are a little on the high side but not enough to be causing a big problem in itself. It's the noise on the line that's the problem, and that's something you usually can't do much about, aside from ensuring all connectors are screwed on tight and all unconnected sockets are terminated properly.

Or to put it another way, give VM a ring and get a tech out.

Re: Slow speed bad stats?
I honestly don't know why some people are so avert to giving Virgin a ring when they clearly need a tech. I know offshore can be a pain but one of Virgin's better aspects is how quickly and easily you can get a tech out with them. Compared to openreach, at least...

Re: Slow speed bad stats?
I'm not scared of ringing them it's the wife's account not mine. But she can't ring them at the moment just had a baby and still in the hospital. So will get it sorted whenever.
But I figured I would double check on here first with the stats make sure it wasn't something simple I could do. Otherwise whats the point in the forum if you can't ask for help?

Re: Slow speed bad stats?
Like I said checking all connectors are secure is about the only thing you can do yourself.
You don't need to be your wife to ring VM. As long as you know her details, which I assume you do you can phone them yourself.

Re: Slow speed bad stats?
Yeah and I believe reporting a fault doesn't even require DPA (i.e. the account password), anyone can report one.

In my case it's because there was no huge urgency and I have neither a VM phone (so it costs) nor the patience to go through the likely BS a call to TS is going to entail before getting that callout.
For me it's a case of reporting it on the forum and waiting a few days. In my time with VM I've had several callouts to fix problems but the only people I've spoken to have been retentions to blag a discount.

Re: Slow speed bad stats?
Thanks guys I went to the VM support forum and a nice mod on there sent me a pm and sorted an engineer for Monday.
I couldn't get more than 1.5mb last night although today my power levels are up a bit giving me 100mb again...could this be a problem with over congestion? I live about 5 miles away from a student area so it shouldn't effect me and this problem only started on Monday night but 2 days this week about this time 10.30 my BB speed has been ok...Wife is still in hospital with the baby so by the time I get back on a night around 10.30pm power levels are down and speeds are 1-5 mb if I'm lucky it was still like this at 2am.
Thought I better check so could mention it to the VM engineer when he gets here?

Re: Slow speed bad stats?
Marginally better but still bad. Your SNR should be above 35, ideally 38

Re: Slow speed bad stats?
Well the VM guy as been he put 2 attenuators on my splitter a 3db one and an 8db one, download speeds are back to 100mb.
These are my modem stats at the moment he says they are ok I'm sure they used to be higher but I guess the next few days will tell me if it's worked
I just wanted to edit this...when I am looking at problems with the modem is it the RX power levels I am looking at because they are right down at the moment compared to what they were

Don't let the name mislead you, you want your RX power to be as close to 0 as possible. You want the SNR to be above 30, though. Your stats are within spec now, before they weren't.
