Microsoft gives a start button and taskbar with one hand, and takes away the reset feature in the other. Balance is once again restored to a ying/yang state.

I've now got a 8.1 image of my laptop and my main pc so I hope it doesn't really apply to me.

Actually it is. Just can't reset the image if you made it in v8 and are now running 8.1, it won't let you. Guess you have to make a new one for the new version. Didn't read the whole article, don't use windows 8 here so only a glancing interest

I have a shutdown shortcut on my desktop and a tile as I hate the quick shutdown (hibernate).

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
I can't even upgrade to 8.1, getting an error message with 100s of others it seems; tried all suggested solutions and none work

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
I am so happy with Windows 8.1 now i can boot to the desktop, have the start screen set as apps view as default and the background the same as my desktop making it feel more integrated meaning i don't want the old start menu back, what are other peoples opinions have you decided to stick with 8.1 or still plan on running Windows 7?

Well you can disable fast boot completely in power settings but I find the boot up way too slow on my laptop without it
