Both interesting and surprising statistics there Spiderplant...

It's anticipated that there will be a Christmas push to give those you love at Christmas SKY.

As confirmed today you can buy NOW TV with a 3 month pre-paid SKY Movies subscription. A further rumour today suggested that you will be able to buy NOW TV boxes with a 12 month prepaid subscription to the "SKY basic" channels. I couldn't get a price out of him as he simply didn't know.

SKY Sports News may launch as a free channel on NOW TV for those who miss it from their Freeview line-up.

Whilst this could be nothing more than rumours it's got me thinking that if SKY Atlantic does launch on Virgin, it might not be until after the NOW TV Christmas push.

We will just have to wait and see......
Well, given the time of year, it wouldn't surprise me if they delayed SA to try and push NOW TV.

As for Atlantic, I hope it comes for those who want it. However, I still could not care one way or the other.
I totally agree with all your sentiments there.

Now Music TV continue to peddle their nonsense that their service will not be on VM as VM have no spare capacity. Despite being told that this is not true, they are still spouting this nonsense to the public.

I think that this erroneous information may have implications upon the business and standing of VM, so I have taken steps to correct this. I'll let everybody know when I get to know anything else

I doubt that this rumour is true. If it's effectively just a rebrand and a refocus of programming of Sky Livingit to Sky Bravo, Sky wouldn't have said that they were keen to negotiate carriage on VM, as this channel is already on the platform!

Having said that, I wouldn't mind Sky Livingit being rebranded- daft name

---------- Post added at 04:21 ---------- Previous post was at 03:36 ----------

Media Boy: Not sure if you have the Style Network on your list of channels yet to come to VM, but the USA version closed at 9pm on 23/9/13. There is speculation that the UK version will close too.

Style Network is already on VM, but very likely if the US Version closes...

It only arrived on VM earlier this year so bad forward planning

EDIT: Style Network US has just been rebranded Esquire Network, style uk should be safe if not for a rebrand

Let's say you could buy an entertainment package with NOW TV for £80.00. For £80.00 you get a full years access to SKY One, SKY Atlantic, SKY Living, SKY Arts, SKY Sports News, SKY on demand, iPlayer, Demand 5 and 4oD. If I didn't have SKY or Virgin, and only Freeview in my house, personally I'd be delighted it someone bought me 12 months or premium TV as a gift.

Every year be it through work or a family member I always get some vouchers or money to spend. Again if all I had was Freeview, and a tight monthly budget, £80.00 for a full years worth of SKY programming would be really appealing.

Each to their own of course. I see this as a good add on service for those looking for a little bit extra, entertainment wise, without the need of a monthly subscription commitment.
You make some valid points Chad, if I could afford to that though, and someone I knew wanted extra channels, I would prefer to give them the subscription as a thanks for their friendship over the years. I would still look to find Christmas presents I know they would find more useful to make their day-to-day lives a bit easier, stress free or a little better off financially.
For example, my best friend and his wife have only had freeview for a number of years now and are not bothered about extra channels. They have also just had a baby boy. I dread to think of the look on his face if I rocked up to his house telling him I have given him £80 worth of TV channels, instead of £80 worth of baby clothes/food/toys or something they need for the kitchen/garden/living room/bedroom etc.

I can understand why you think it would be a nice present, but I simply find it a horrid present to give someone at Christmas.

I just think +1's are a backwards step for technologically innovative companies who are already providing many more flexible ways to catch up with missed shows, and generally in hd. The truth is that +1's are really only a way for channel operators to squeeze a bit more out of their advertising revenues, they're inflexible in that they are still scheduled and don't fit with the "what you want, when you want it" ideals of TiVo and Sky+, or even myBBC, and given the number of repeats and catch up options available to people they don't even really offer something that isn't already available.

IMO.

But I would be genuinely interested in Old Boy's opinion, because he said he welcomed the addition of FOX+.
I understand and accept that some have no use for the +1 channels. I also accept that they are inflexible, but then again so are linear channels anyway.

Two practical issues. First of all, if you don't 'do' recordings or you have a V box, if you are watching TV and there are two programmes you would like to watch but they are both on at the same time, the +1 overcomes that problem for you.

If, like me, you record everything to watch later, there will often be recording clashes. As the peak season for good programmes arrives, it is not unusual for all my tuners to be taken up by recordings between 9 and 11pm. Sometimes, I can simply record a programme that is repeated in the wee small hours or a less clogged up time during the evening on another day, but all too frequently, no suitable slots are available. The +1 channel provides an additional opportunity to record those programmes.

If recording clashes were just occasional happenings, having no +1 channels wouldn't bother me, but clashes do happen very often in my house!

Those of you who don't see the value of them, well you don't have to use them and it doesn't affect you that they are there. So why take away this method of seeing a programme an hour later for those who find it useful?

I really don't understand why people are getting themselves so wound up about this. Too much stress shortens your life, you know. Better to go with the flow!

In the long term of course the problem will go away because I don't see a future for linear channels. We will all be choosing our programmes from Netflix, Lovefilm, etc. It is absurd that people are still prepared to sit through hours of advertisements on linear channels that interrupt their programmes at times that are determined by the programme schedulers. What a strange way to view TV nowadays, and what a waste of your life!

They don't add new content, they're not in hd, and Virgin already offer a range of ways to time shift your viewing, including the provision of a set top box which resolves the recording clashes which appear to be the main reason people want them.

No?
No, Andy. Some programmes get repeated ad nauseum, but often those I want to see are not, or they are repeated at another peak time. Time shifting only works when you have a lot of repeated programmes.

But you could buy it as a Christmas pressie for your wife, install it in the bedroom, where she could watch whatever she wanted. You could watch what you liked then on your TIVO box!

You could always snuggle up to enjoy the odd Sky Atlantic show worth watching!

I was only passing on what one of my Rumour Posters told me.

If Sky do so that will mean Sky Bravo will get Channel 112 on Virgin Media plus also an +1 hour channel on Virgin Channel 160.

Sky need to close an channel or buy one of the wee broadcasters channel numbers on Sky to launch Sky Bravo anyway,

As Sky close the SD Channel launch list years ago.

Last night I posted that ''Up to 17 new channels may launch by 2014''.

I have just noted that Christmas 24 is on that list so it just 'Up to 16 new Channels' sorry for any mix up.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 5.

Another rumour - again take it with a pinch of salt as there is no official confirmation as yet.

I just received the following:

Quote:
I hear that Virgin Media could introduce a £5 HD charge to those who don't have XLTV and want HD.

This will be so as people on M+ and above can receive channels such as SKY 1HD etc.
The channels will be relevant to the channels in their package.
