Media Center Control of VM Set top box

Hi,
I am researching the ability to control the Set top box via USB or Ethernet from a media center setup.
I would like to be able to at least change channels using the onscreen media center interface. it would be nice to collect EPD as well.
I see there is an option for video output using SCART to record, but that is a discussion for another forum.

In a nutshell, is there a way to control the box other than with the remote?

Thanks
PB

Re: Media Center Control of VM Set top box

If you have a V-HD box, you won't be able to control it via either USB or Ethernet. But it should be straightforward to do it with an IR wand.
It's not possible to read the EPG data from the box either.

ps. Welcome to the forum!

Re: Media Center Control of VM Set top box

Thanks for the reply spiderplant, and thanks for the welcome

ok, IR Trans is the way to go for that then... or is there another box I can use that will let me control it? I might use something like the HD Homerun if it will work in the UK for OTA/Freeview.
I assume EPG Data is available to download in XML format or something like that?
If I can't get the data, this is a lost cause, at least for TV.

PB.
