Back to work on Monday I wish I'd had enough leave left for a fortnight instead of just one week.

I hate Mondays normally anyway, but they're even worse when I've been off.

re: GTA V (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, PC)

I am not massively impressed to be honest. I have been driving around trying to find the fun. The missions are the same as the missions in the previous GTAs and I have instead been trying to find the fun randomness but, again, it's the same as before. It's a very good game, well executed, well presented and well imagined but I just feel like I have done this all before...

Help me find the fun!

re: GTA V (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, PC)

It depends what you deem to be fun? There is golf, tennis, yoga, triathlons? But they are just generic game in games, but as you said it's well executed.

But I just found driving around was pretty fun. I just spot a car and I decide that it might be fun to drive that car up a mountain? Or Drive into a petrol station and jump out at the last minute (and try not to get killed).

It's not the biggest or most immersive open world game, but it's slick and the graphics are good so you can forgive it's flaws a bit easier.

However I think the make of break for this game is going to be GTA Online. I am liking the sound of GTA:O with the group heists and robberies, also passive mode looks to be a nice touch just to go cruising or help people out. But I am hoping that there is just a big old classic death match option like the good old days.

re: GTA V (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, PC)

I don't understand, We've done all this before in previous GTA's? whilst the general gameplay in the same, the missions and features are not even close to previous entries. When did we last drop a sub in the middle of the ocean from a helicopter? I get that some of missions will feel similar as it's a sequel but how's that different from any other sequel. Call of Duty and Mass Effect ran with the same thing for multiple years yet I've never seen anyone call Mass Effect out for it. In fact there's pretty much every sequel. Assassins Creed and so on.

As for GTA online being the make or break point, that doesn't matter now, they've sold a ridiculous amount of the game breaking every record in it's path.
$1 Billion in 3 days.

re: GTA V (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, PC)

Yes commercially it has been a success.

But when I mean hinges on GTA:O I mean it's long term legacy.

Look at GTAIV. I loved that game at the time. But once it was finished there was bugger all to do. I did play a lot online which kept me in Liberty City, but there was very little to do there. Levelling up was basic compared to other XP focussed online games.

Other games will have done the Co-Op before and I am sure they will have done it a lot better than R*

However considering there is already a slump in attitude to GTAV after the initial hype, I think that GTA:O will be the lynch pin in defining how it is viewed in 5 years time.

Whilst they say GTA:O is a separate entity, it's based in Los Santos so until they expand on that world it will be linked to GTAV.

These missions are rare. It's still largely the same routine of driving from point A to B. It's just the same usually I don't care and spend most of my time playing with the city but here too I find it lacking. The game world isn't as exciting and maybe it's just because of novelty of a sandbox game has worn off.

Mass Effect is mostly a story driven game and gets away with it. GTA story and characters aren't on par, it's the only real weakness of the game but as I find the missions repetitive it's one which holds me back.

This article sums it up for me:

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/2...eft_Auto_V.php

Quote:
In GTA V you shoot down a police helicopter within the first couple of hours, with no consequences. I feel gluttonous and bored. I start the game with a gorgeous car because I am a car "reposesser." And if I see another car I want, I pull over and I get it. When my fender gets too banged up, I pull over and I get another car. Nobody ever even really stops me. Neither GTA IV or GTA V have ever given me, personally, a Wanted Star for stealing a car.

Always prescient, the game aims to lampoon the modern obsession with smart devices, social networks -- none-too-subtle "LifeInvader" subs for Facebook, and "Bleater" for Twitter -- and internet politics, but is mostly heavy-handed about it: any elderly pundit at a middle-American local paper can skewer Twitter as an outlet for narcissists' boring snippets. "Information isn't about imparting knowledge anymore," gloats Bleater obtusely, "the internet changed all that."

This is watching your sharp, witty father start telling old fart jokes as his mind slows down. And as much as the internet is habituated to defending GTA as "satire," what is it satirizing, if everything is either sad or awful? Where is the "satire" when the awful parts no longer seem edgy or provocative, just attempts at catch-all "offense" that aren't honed enough to even connect?
I don't want to be too negative. It's a well-designed, well-executed, large game. It is a good game. But it's the game I played several years ago when GTA 4 game out with a new lick of paint. I can't connect with it like the old games.

I think there is an element of the Emperor's New Clothes about it. Review after review raving about it but in time I think it will be seen as less important or novel than GTA 4. I think Last of Us should win best game this year too.

re: GTA V (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, PC)

Blimey the game is a bit short, I didn't expect it to end that quickly.

Overall I enjoyed it but also disappointed. It was way too easy this time, there wasn't a single taxing moment in the entire game.

If you steal a car where the police can see you, in ANY GTA game, you get a wanted star.

That person who reviewed the it has obviously never scratched the surface of a GTA game.

Now, while I imagine that The Last of Us is great and all, I personally feel a platform exclusive game should be exempt from any GOTY award

That goes for almost every sequel ever! Fifa, Mario, Gran Turismo, Saints Row, Pacman, Simcity, F1, COD, Medal of Honor, Crash Bandicoot, Michro Machines. Mario Kart

I could of course go on and on but I won't. People play sequels because they really enjoy the games. All sequels are the same at heart. More of the same and more of what people like with better graphics and more features. Sometimes sequels can get it wrong however, trying too hard to improve and find ways of making more money.

I am only at 20% on GTA V so far and am still loving it. As much as I love the game I don't have the time nor want to get fed up with the game so am making sure I am taking my time and not rushing through it.

I love just exploring and finding all the fun things and funny references or spoof company names. The Liquor store is great. 'Liquor Hole' hehehe

re: GTA V (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, PC)

Indeed. I've had wanted stars several times due to carjacking. Sometimes due to cops being near by, sometimes due to the car owner phoning the cops themselves (so now, of course, I always make sure I leave no witnesses behind ).

As for it being more of the same etc. etc. Sure, if you boil it down to its basic level. But the same can be said of any franchise game, or any games within the same genre as each other, if you really want to simplify it.

But it is so much more than GTA IV... It's bigger, more varied, has better characters, better story.

There've been some awesome missions for each character on their own and as a team. I've hijacked a cargo plane by flying a cropduster into the open ramp in mid air, driven out of another cargo plane on an ATV and skydived, piloted choppers and planes, rappelled down a building, parachute jumped onto the top of a mountain and then raced a push bike down the side, carried out assassinations and manipulated the stock market, and much more.

The multi-character aspect also makes it far better. The narrative works better than GTA IV because your characters have different missions tailored to their different skills, and get to follow their own path plus hook up regularly. The switching is brilliantly implemented, enabling you to flit between characters when they're doing their solo missions, and to switch *in mission* when doing team jobs. The ones where you play as two or three of them together are so well done, switching one to another to another, doing different parts of each heist.

There's just so much to do... I can spend hours just messing around, without touching a mission. Steal a fighter jet and go rampaging around the city from the air, use sticky bombs to blow up multiple cop cars and then spend ages being chased with a 5* wanted level. Or maybe do the actual activities or random encounters scattered around, the sports, the jobs, the hitchhikers, the armoured trucks, etc. etc.

I can see myself spending far more time on this than I did on GTA IV.

Yes but they're not being proclaimed game of the year and 10/10 game changers. I didn't say this was a bad game but that it's underwhelming. I'll give it more time but the fundamental gameplay isn't especially fun to me, unlike those games you mentioned.

I totally agree. GTV IV had me bored after a short while. V has me wanting to play it a lot. Even just to admire the graphics of the city.

COD MOH, GT and a few of the others or their sequels have been at various times.
