Re: Do you ever knowingly break the speed limit

Living where I do, almost the entire road to anywhere is national limit, although the road itself rarely permits that sort of speed. However there are a couple of places where the limit drops to 40 as the road passes a couple of houses and I tend to let the car slow naturally as I approach those, rather than screaming up to them at full pelt and then slamming the brakes on. As often as not that means I pass the start of the limit doing 45 or a little more and don't reach 40 until I'm about a hundred yards in.

Mind you, from occasionally using a sat nav I know my speedo consistently over-reads by almost 10% so I'm probably not going over the limit after all.

Re: Do you ever knowingly break the speed limit

My partner drives at the appropriate speed limit or just below and touch wood so far we have never had a bang but what we do observe is that there are plenty of smart arse drivers on the road who think they are better then they really are and these are the ones you have to watch as they will cause many of the accidents as we have seen lately and also its important that drivers drive to the conditions as again many don't.

Re: Do you ever knowingly break the speed limit

Drivers should be aware of the speed they are travelling at. If they are not aware then they are not in proper control of the vehicle. By default therefore, unless you do not exceed the speed limit, you have done so knowingly, or worse you are driving carelessly.

Re: Do you ever knowingly break the speed limit

All the time, on the motorway or dual-carriageways. not in built up areas.

On the motorway I usually cruise at a steady 90mph, traffic permitting.

Re: Do you ever knowingly break the speed limit

Oh for those early days before 70mph became the national limit on motorways.
140mph down the M6 from Preston (Preston Bypass) 3.8 Jag.
Now a carefull grandfather driver doing 65mph down the inside lane watching the 'mad Herberts' trying to break the sound barrier in a clapped out car!

Re: Do you ever knowingly break the speed limit

Obviously not in residential areas. I stick to the limits but on motorways I do atleast 80.

Re: Do you ever knowingly break the speed limit

No.

The office next to us collates the stats of accidents where blood is spilled or worse. Some of the reports they get are more than enough to make you slow down. The old saying of better to be late in this life than early in the next springs to mind.

Cheers

Grim
