SH1 Problem
I've been getting a smaller and smaller range on my SH1 for months now and yesterday the wireless signal completely went so I phoned VM this morning and the chap did some tests and said it was working fine from his end (how can he test my wireless signal )
anyway he refused to send someone out as he said VM don't advertise you get wireless internet so if it's working fine on a wired pc that all they are entitled to do.
is this right? or should I call back and get someone else

Re: SH1 Problem
Call retentions (150 thinking of leaving) and complain that the WiFi has completely stopped working and TS have said they won't do anything about it.
I suspect they are getting lots of SH1 users calling in hoping to get the SH2 instead so they are being tight on sending out replacements. They used to send out SH1 replacements at the drop of a hat.

Re: SH1 Problem
Thanks I will do that, I didn't think they was giving out the SH2 anyway at the moment? and with that thought if they are not handing them out at the moment I might wait until they are as this SH1 has always had rubbish wireless.
when I say rubbish I mean when it was new if I walked out of my patio door about 3.5mts from the router I lose connection if I walk the other direction to one of the bedrooms (we live in a bungalow) my sons bedroom runs parallel with the living room and I couldn't get any reception in his room at all bar a single skinned brick wall there is only about 3 meters from the router and I have raised the router onto a shelf 6 foot off the floor.
but anyway that was when it was new even if I stand right in front of the router my iphone can't pick it up although I can pick up around 7 other connections from my neighbours.

Re: SH1 Problem
Sounds like a failing radio or antenna. Even a replacement SH1 should do better.
However if you want better wireless buy a separate wireless router, put the SH into modem mode and voila, problem solved. The modem will be unaffected by the failing wifi. There's practically no difference between a SH1 modem and a SH2 modem.

Re: SH1 Problem
that's not a bad idea can anyone recommend a decent Wireless N router under £100 it needs to be able to cover an area of about 500 meters squared inc the patio area

Re: SH1 Problem
The consensus here on the forum is an ASUS RT-N66U.
Your 500m^2 is not a measurement that can be guaranteed because we don't know the dimensions and where the router wil be located in relation to those dimensions.
My older ASUS RT-N56U sits near a front upstairs window. 35 metres away across the street, I still have 3/3 bars on line of sight and 2/3 bars when a bush gets in the way.

Re: SH1 Problem
Ok cheers,
Yes of course you wouldn't know my house here is a little picture
do you think the router would work over most of that? internal walls are all single brick so not too thick

Re: SH1 Problem
An ASUS should eat it, my ASUS covers 21ft living room plus outside garden and living room of house opposite! (@ 40ft total not counting rear garden as router positioned at the rear of living room)

Re: SH1 Problem
thanks for everyone's help I bought myself a new ASUS RT-N66U router and put the SH1 in to modem only mode and I have a wireless signal all over the house and a strong one too, on my laptop I get a full 4 bars everywhere except the far corner of Bedroom 3 where it drops to 3 bars but that is spot on guy's well worth spending the money on

Re: SH1 Problem
Glad you like it! I've been rocking the same router for months now and it's easily the best router I've ever had. You really do get what you pay for.
