Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
And NIS 13 installs (and works) just fine
Interestingly the standalone password toolbar doesn't work but the one included with NIS is fine. Odd but there you go.

What a sodding joke and here was i thinking they might see sense. If only BF3 would run in linux i would not need windows. Still i will never pay for another Microsoft product anymore after this.

Well yes it does but I just googled Windows 8 App List and used the most appropriate image. Can't be showing how much I've wasted on Windows 8 Xbox enabled games.

Does startisback work Russ as that's my savoir when it comes to windows 8. Without that i would be well and truly buggered and would have to revert to using pirated copys of windows 7 as microcrap refuse to return my windows 7 legit key to active.

StartIsBack for Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2 will be available later. You won't need to buy another license.

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
I have now returned to this country from malta and i have installed the 8.1 beta. My first impression is that when those of us asked for a start menu we did not quite ask the right question so Microsoft decided to do as we asked.
This means we were given a half way house that works but is not really what we asked for. I will try it over the next few days and see if it works. If not its back to a copy of Windows 8 with startisback and the updates turned off so i dont get 8.1 forced on me.
BTW on a separate subject has any noticed that no matter what you do you cannot stop the Bing desktop update showing up in updates EVEN if you tell it not to show again. Bing desktop is a major piece of crap and Microsoft should be ashamed of themselves for making it.

you can boot straight to desktop which I sure you be happy about and can make it show your programs instead of start screen if you wish too when you click start button which should be better for you sirus as I know you hate the start screen plus can turn of the hot corners too if you chose so 8.1 gives you lot more choice

Very very initial observations are that they have improved the interface and it lends itself better to those of us that prefer the original layout than the mobile phone interface they forced on us. Time will tell if i use it or revert.
