That's why i use a vpn so my isp cannot stop me accessing what i want to access

It was a matter of time really. Run your own socks/http proxy, or VPN for less than a pound a month if you must access TPB etc. You can even proxy your torrenting...

There was a list of about 8 sites in the Torrentfreak article about this, but I could load up 5 of them with no problem at all. The three that didn't work all had a court ordered domain name with proxy simply appended to it.

It is totally wrong that media companies are able to get sites blocked and control such a block list in the way they have. The same companies have got ARM to include hardware DRM style protection on the new chips for the next generation phones too. Politics and money to get what they want.

The blocks don't affect me as I don't use the sites/could easily bypass if I wanted, but the censoring of sites by them annoys me a lot. I won't be renewing my Sky TV subscription or paying for tv again, never again paying to watch a movie at the cinema, not buying any more DVD/Blu-ray/streaming movies, no music cd's/paid mp3 downloads (unless indie artist) or any on demand movies or sports pay per views. Beyond internet radio I will try and not use anything that helps them get money.

I don't use torrents unless they are private sites and then it once in a blue moon that i do. However i have the right to use my connection to access the Internet and i will not be happy if my isp takes the same route as sky and bans sites that they have not been requested to ban. My VPN has never let me down yet thankfully.

It wouldn't surprise me if the media companies eventually try to take down well known VPN providers or force them to block the same sites too. They have done the NZB indexers, squeezed the financing options for binary newsgroup providers, got some torrent sites blocked, get google to remove millions of links a month, File Lockers like Mega and others and using that to force others to stop, using paypal to stop payment to some torrent sites and now going for the attack on ad providers as well as talking to those placing ads. So VPN's will be on the list in one way or the other.

Anyone can setup a VPN or use free ones, Tor or even simple http/php proxy sites to bypass the blocks. The media companies just want to stop those not so determined or new to downloading.

In fact, no need to even use a proxy. Use Opera to browse and turn on Turbo mode. Bypasses the blocks.

Good point whatever these greedy media companies do there will be always a few work around methods as per standard so it the normal thing we see every time:

Free enterprise market (internet) wins again & more ground every time when these idiots try to control/corner the market with a useless motions in useless court orders. They only want to see money in there hands not a level media retail pricing model.... No amount of money they throw at their very own made problem which how this foolish copyright argument got started in first place.

They never moved with times of their mass market audience who use to or buys there goods...simply put as that. Pirate sites offer that, simple but a large back catalogue of material at arms length even the out of printed media which you can't get now from the music corporations.

I can't get why don't they just put this silly argument to bed & out of it misery as it can be easy solved by them facing facts, they don't control the media market any more as they think they do but the buying masses do; as all the material is out there ready to had........

They have only scratched the tip of Usenet. Plenty of good indexing sites up and running now and still getting good completion in the main from new servers. Only really TV is messed by DMCA but as long as you get what you want quick and don't leave it till the season ends you can get what you want. NZBMatrix took itself down also only really newzbin taken down by legal manes

Virgin have started to block the same proxies today.

Only some as have BT and TalkTalk but not as much as Sky's done. The one's blocked do show the Court order notice so its something VM has had to comply with.

Not when it leads to censoring the internet. Now this has started over the next few years we will see political web sites blocked under the guise that they hold extreme views. Mark my words, this is what will happen as it progresses. Starts witg something as small as essentially a company with lots of money blocking websites will nilly
