New V+box

I got a new v+ box on Friday put extended recordings to ten min before and after a recording so a 30 min show should record for 50min in total.this morning I set up two 30 min recordings there total time should have been 100min actual total 74min so I lost 26 min.Another recording has just done the same anyone got any idea

Re: New V+box

74 minutes would be correct for the default padding, so I'd guess either you forgot to press 'save' when changing the default padding (check it again), or you set up the recordings before setting the padding. The padding only takes effect on new recordings.

Re: New V+box

I thought that they had stopped issuing V+ boxes

Do VM replace any faulty V+ boxes like for like?

The latest offers I received last week include a V+ box

Really, I thought they are slowly trying to phase out the V+, sure it was not only a VHD box?

The offer does state:

"Plus - extra recordable V + HD Box for another room."

Its at the bottom of the Digital TV section for each package in the picture I posted.

Re: New V+box

I originally thought that they were only moving existing V+ boxes to another part of the house when a TiVo was ordered.

It does seem odd that they are supplying boxes that they want to eventually phase out.

Perhaps they have a huge stock of them!

I also have a feeling that all those took advantage of the offer to have their V+ relocated who, for the first time, experienced and became used to pay TV in the bedroom may be in for extra charges long term.

When the time comes for the V+ to be switched off, VM can legitimately say that it is a free service that is coming to an end, but that a (chargeable) extra TiVo can be made available at a cost.

Possibly however by that time the majority of those effected customers will be out of contract with Virgin. If Virgin try to pull a stunt like that, and rub loyal customers up the wrong way, I'm sure many would tell Virgin to stick it.

I wouldn't worry about that for a while. Some people still have 14-year old Pace 1000 boxes. The only digital boxes VM have ever withdrawn were the earliest Pace 4001s, and the affected customers got a Samsung 2110 for free.

They weren't compatible with the new smartcards.

Re: New V+box

Do we know when VM intend to drop the TiVo software onto V boxes?

At this point AIUI the V+ will cease to work.

Just to add to all this that I have been reading in another thread that there is speculation that the new owners of VM, Liberty Global, may decide to use the PVR technology that they use for all their other customers instead of TiVo.

This is said to be a better product and would save VM having to pay licensing costs to TiVo.

It's only the V HD boxes that could potentially be compatible with the TiVo software

The V+ boxes and SD V boxes aren't compatible.

Re: New V+box

just recently cancelled a family member's V+ for her and they were VERY quick to send the request for the return of the box so it must be some use to them not just their property?

Re: New V+box

So if the V+ and the Samsung 2110 Boxes are not compatible with the Tivo software perhaps they should get their head out of their rear ends and swap mine over for free rather than trying to charge the £49.99 activation fee which I feel is wrong for them to charge as a long standing cable customer (approx 14 years) and the fact I have never asked retentions for a "cheaper package" the least they could do is drop this charge and the fact they will have to change me over to the Tivo for free sooner or later due to it being outdated.
I'm 3 years out of contract now and thinking of going to Tivo if only they would let us know what is happening with the BT Sport channels
