And it's **** at playing the programme. It's so much better on through Virgin Media itself.
Fast forwarding etc.. is crap. you can only skip 1 minute at a time, and if you push it twice it skips about 10 minutes.
But crucially it's not the "same app" as on Sky is it[COLOR="Silver"]

There's no need to swear, ocav made a valid point.
You don't have to use it, you can record the programmes. You could also plug a laptop or pc into your telly and use the iplayer online.
I agree that the fast forward option is far from ideal, but this the app we have been given, whether we like it or not.
I personally don't care if the app is different to Sky. If you feel you are missing out on something special, you have the option to change suppliers, although VM may provide the better overall package for you currently.
As ocav rightly points out, you could always contact the BBC and tell them your frustrations with it. You are, of course welcome to air your views on this forum, but no-one will be able make the Iplayer any better.

It's the same app as on connected TVs, BluRays, Freesat boxes and I believe YouView. If you hate the app, take that up with the BBC iPlayer team, they are solely responsible for it.

It never defaults to HD, so even when you go back thru the EPG and select the programme you want to view, it still loads up the app to play it, you then still have to use the app to select HD etc, still have to use app to forward and rewind....

It would be more ideal if, where VM have it on their VOD servers for the V(HD) and V+ boxes it prefers that over the online version

But that would mean using a tuner, something the app does not.

Why, when they are shown on BBC 1 and BBC 2 which are already simulcast in hd?

**** me, how can you not swear when there's such idiotic behaviour on here.
Your comments make no sense. The whole point of "CATCH UP on demand" is that it is stuff that you haven't recorded.
The whole point of it being on the box is so you don't mess with a laptop or PC. That's just a nonsense suggestion.
As for telling me to go to the BBC to complain, what is the point of a discussion forum? As if I would make the BBC Trust change anything. The BBC as a whole is shoddily run.

Exactly, and setting to HD results in a second bout of "silver circle" (ok only for a few seconds but still).
Also a major flaw for me is the frame rate isn't up to scratch, so you get a jumpier picture. It's ok for drama but sport is a no go.

Now you're making me laugh.
You can't have HD and 3D broadcast on the same channel. You are aware of that?

My Youview box has an option in settings to select 'Play in High Definition' this results in the On Demand players immediately selecting HD where available which is a nice option.

Just to clarify, Muppetman, it's the stb which offers global settings, as opposed to the iplayer app itself?

That's irrelevant if the consequence of selecting that setting is to change the format that the iplayer app plays the content.

Yes it's built into the STB settings , Youview will automatically bring up the HD OD version if there is one.
Example go back a day in the EPG select say 'The Apprentice' and iplayer will open with the HD version selected.

The interesting question for me is why it is taking so long to get a deal for BT Sports channels on the VM platform, any ideas?

The ESPN deal with VM was not done until July going from my reduced memory loss MH.

There's 2 whole months to go before they struggle to reach a last minute deal.
