The LG 3D tv's can make 2D tv into 3D and much of the it is as good as a kosha 3D film. Didn't expect it to be so good at all. So you may not actually need a 3D channel.

Most 3D films are depth based 3D rather than pop-out which is what someone usually expects.

I enjoy documentaries in 3D, like the Galapagos 3D recently on Sky but the dog prefers watching movies in 3D

Re: Virgin in 3d

We have done this with our avchd holiday recordings and the conversion can look stunning, the depth help brings alive detail you didn't realise was there, this sort of extra depth can be brought alive on most content by a device called a darbee which is about to be added to the next generation of lumagens. Ps tried watching the premier league on sky sports via 2d to 3d conversion and it isn't as good as the dedicated 3d feed, this is because sky uses different angles combined with pop shots to provide an altogether better experience than its normal HD broadcast.

The Samsung Active 3D TVs can also convert to 3D. Eastenders was something I tested it with and the Queen Vic had a lot of depth lol.

Re: Virgin in 3d

3D is a pointless gimmick, specially on a TV.

I dont see it as a gimmick. Its been around too long now. Also with every TV manufacturer has 3D on every model now, says to me they don't consider it a gimmick now.

Re: Virgin in 3d

... And the quality is getting better, new Dolby technology may mean that we all will sit and watch TV with extra depth without the glasses, I know toshiba have already meddled with this but eventually it will be how we all watch it.

If you think so, don't buy one. It is a gimmick, just like coloured and, indead pictures. What's wrong with wireless?

Well, it's a new month and VM still hasn't replaced the 3D On Demand content that they first took off in January.

The problem with 3D is there ain't that content to show apart from Sky's own protected content.

In fairness, 3D doesn't seem to be selling that well. HD is selling well, but, TBH, it's not fair to compare 3D and HD because anyone buying a TV pretty much such the first HD plasmas were launched has been effectively forced into buying an HD set as there are no competing technologies available. Even 3D sets do HD.

It may not be a gimmick, but equally it does not seem to be seen as necessary.
