Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
One thing to bear considering is that, MS may go for a 'paid upgrade to Windows 8.1'
That'll be interesting. No more Service Packs, just Paid updates.

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
It should be pushed as a support pack via windows update, as opposed to visiting the Windows Store!

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Well i am running windows 8 only because i have to. But i have start is back to give me the start button back and have hidden the Metro crap away. It now looks and perform the same as windows 7 which tells me all they did was remove the start button and remove some of the nice graphical extras that you get with windows 7. I am willing to bet that they do not bring back the the original start button and instead bring something back they call the start button. What they will do then is say they have so they can sell a few more copies before it is consigned to the same place vista was. I hope that they actually see sense but i am expecting them to not to. Such a shame as Microsoft was going in the right direction with windows 7 and now they have done a massive U turn.
I like this bit that was posted in reply to there blog above.

I hardly see how windows 8 was made for our work or our personal lives, its bad at work and its not able to reflect our personal life interaction with it.
It would be irrational to think 8.1 would have been a paid update, it would be the death of windows8 if that wouldve been the case so nothing special here.
What is more important is if this update will actually make a tablet interface properly suited for tablets and a desktop interface properly suited for desktop, i am severly dissapointed with my interaction with win8 on surface pro and with win8 on desktop.
You know very well that a swiss army knife has different tools for different purposes, your making a swiss army knife with only 1 tool for all purposes, which is what company has failed to recognize in public, even though you are very aware of that.

Lets put it this way, without that mobile phone interface its not different after you put the start button back. I see not improvement at all over windows 7. In fact that maybe what there scared of if they put the start button back people will see through there bull excreta.

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Anyone else having trouble using BBC iPlayer desktop on Windows 8? Have uninstalled it, installed it. Same with Adobe AIR, and tried their FAQ's. No joy. Tried using it in compatibility mode for Windows XP, Vista and 7. No luck. So am now wondering if it is something I am doing wrong or if anyone else was having the same trouble.

If you are talking about Windows 8 try installing Classic Start.

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Anyone managed to add their gmail account to Windows 8 email? Tried all the application specific password and enabling IMAP stuff. Email address and password not recognised...
