Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 2.
I like sport but would certainly not pay £10 extra. I'm sure this will all get sorted out so if people want BT they can have it. BT needs people to see their product.
Initially of course they are trying to tempt people away from rivals, but once it is clear that many will not move, they will need to get their product to those who want it or they will become irrelevent. I'm certainly not going to lose any sleep over this.

You sports fans have been free loading off 'non sports fan' XL customers for long enough, by having a £10 premium subscription channel (ESPN) included free of charge.
Suggesting that XL should go up by £10 to give you more free sport is taking the 'P'.
I know Atlantic was also mentioned but if or when VM do get it, it should be included in the current XL price as it is not a Sky Premium channel.

Get a grip, we sports fans subscribe to the sports channels to get the sports that we want to see, so how is that "free loading" as you put it if we are paying a subscription to get sports?
You go on about ESPN, well if Virgin want to offer that free to its VIP customers then surely that's up to them, you can't blame the customer for something the company want to offer for free! Maybe the reason we got it free was due to the fact that Virgin realised that we are paying over the odds as it is for sports channels!

I agree with you, I have hardly ever watched ESPN.

Or to put it another way, we sport fans have been enticed to pay for a higher tier of tv than we might otherwise have done so by the inclusion of live sport in hd. The result being more money made by Virgin and better benefits for all customers. So, in conclusion, you're welcome!

You don't have to be on VIP to get ESPN; it's included free on the XL TV pack.
I would have no problem if it was free in VIP.
TBH, the fact that ESPN was free in XL wasn't a big deal to me ---- it was the outrageous suggestion that XL goes up by £10 purely for sports fans who've had a long enough free ride on a premium sports package as it is.

I'm aware of why ESPN was included in XL. It's the cheek of suggesting that XL prices rise by £10 to subsidise sports fans, who have already done 'very nicely' for the last few years.

Rubbish, it was a suggestion that a poster made, and i commented that it may entice some people to consider this, personally i wouldn't pay anymore than i am at present as i think we are all paying over the odds for what we get, and to suggest that sports fans have been getting subsidised is ridiculous!

No way - In fact on the basis of what I have at present it would make Sky the cheapest option.
As far as subsidising sports fans - other than the Olympics I probably have not watched a single sports channel this year. However, at the end of the day we all subsidise each other to some extent. I probaly never watch over half the channels available to me (including the Sky Sports which I have in my package) but do not begrudge them being available to everyone else. Afterall they may not watch half the channels that I watch reguarly.

Where did I refer to it in any other way than as a 'suggestion'?
I posted that in my view it was a bad suggestion and gave my reasons for that opinion.

I don't understand why the sports fans felt forced into taking TV XL to get ESPN. I believe ESPN was always available standalone on any TV level and that even the most expensive TV L plus standalone ESPN was cheaper than TV XL.

Why would anyone feel forced to take anything?

Interesting. The other week I was simply arguing that as a non TiVo user I shouldn't be asked to pay for the development of a TiVo Netflix app. You and a few others rounded on me and said that everyone should pay for the app because 'we all subsidise each others services', regardless of if we're interested in it, or not.
I'll leave you to dig yourself out of that one...

"I got the same response from both BT and VM. They may have to embargo any new deals until the takeover is complete."
I said this when the takeover was first announced and a few so called experts rubished me....
