I only watch the UFC and won't be paying extra. I'll just buy the blu-ray highlights once a year for £20.

ESPN is currently only £8 including HD if you don't have XL TV so I would have thought a reasonable price would be around £10 including HD. You also never know if VM may negotiate a cheap deal with BT for those with XL TV considering the fact that we'll be losing ESPN.

Watch this space I guess
Very true mate. VM have to do some sort of deal with BT to keep customers happy. Otherwise, a price decrease (doubt it), or customers will be leaving.

Perhaps they're going to use this a loss leader to entice people to take extra services?

I doubt prices wil decrease, maybe the money will be used for extra channels, or even a TV price freeze for a year?

I know Sky Atlantic, but unaware of any else.

£15 a month... i just hope that my favourite footy club man up when the tv deal is up for renewal again in a few years time and claim the rights to their home league matches, or they may never fully compete with Barcelona and Real Madrid (who already do this by the way thats why they generate more revenue).

Way to kill football for good. If the new FFP regulations won't do enough damage.

Eventually, United & friends would get so far ahead, that the Premier League "product" would no longer be interesting but for a handful of games where the big teams play each other.

And then the rights would be worse less.

Clever tho because if you only had BT Phone they would still charge you. So can't say they discriminating non-bt customers.

You will get BT sport free on Sky platform as well if you take BTs broadband, this could create big problems for Virgin.

I agree , especially with the amount of Half Price codes knocking about at the moment.

Talking Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 2.

So much speculation! You will need to wait until Virgin do the deal! It is likely that we will have to wait for an announcement because VM are negotiating the best possible price.

My guess is that Virgin will take the amount currently calculated for the ESPN deal and just charge the difference between that and what BT are charging. I'm not sure that Virgin have the resources to make the channels completely free.

However, no-one knows for sure so we just have to be patient. They surprised us with the original Satanta deal, so maybe they have something up their sleeves with this one.

Personally, I'm not a sports fan and so I don't want them pumping any of my money into BT Sports. I would rather have the option of some decent non-sports channels like (ahem) Sky Atlantic.....

SKY are going to get even more aggressive with their 50% off codes in the next few months. My SKY insider, yes I have an insider, confirmed all staff just received 10 codes each earlier this week to give to family and friends. Plenty more will be made available to the general public via the usual money saving websites in the coming months.

Put it this way, the codes will be very accessible to anyone who wants to save a small fortune on pay TV over the next 12 months.

I'm not convinced that BT really want to do a deal.

http://www.digitaltveurope.net/54521...gin-talk-talk/

"BT Retail CEO Gavin Patterson said the firm was still open to doing wholesale deals for its forthcoming sports channels with Virgin Media and Talk Talk, but stressed its strategy wasn’t dependent on it.

Speaking at a BT Sport launch event in London this morning, Patterson said that talks were ongoing with Virgin and would “hopefully continue” in the coming weeks, but claimed it was difficult for the cable TV rival to do a “value proposition” until BT was able to announce details of its sport offering.

“We’ve had similar discussions with Talk Talk as we have with Virgin. Philosophically we’re not against, wholesale, we’d be open to it, it’s really about value – what our perception of the value of it is, and what their perception of the value is, and there’s a gap at the moment,” said Patterson.

Asked whether he could imagine a point where BT would simply walk away from wholesale discussions he added: “Our strategy is not dependent on wholesale. It’s not completely within our control – it’s whether or not we can find the right valuation between us and others. We couldn’t rely on it in that respect, so we’ve built a strategy, we’ve built a business plan that doesn’t necessarily depend on us wholesaling this.”

This sounds very much like the negotiations between Virgin and SKY for SKY Atlantic. That channel launched over 2 years ago and still no sign of it on Virgin.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 2.

If what everyone is saying that BT will want to recoup all there money they have paid, it needs all platforms to recover the money.

With Sky the top in broadcaster, then followed by by VM, then you have BT that does not have enough subs etc. It cannot rely on other broadcasters there isn't any.

I think that VM will do a deal BUT, it will be costly - l wont pay more than a fiver extra, you are ONLY getting TWO BT sports channels, the other other one is ESPN which we already have free.

Except that apart from the name its an entirely different channel. They should have just called it BT Sport 3 to avoid this confusion.

I don't believe that BT are aiming to recoup their outlay-I think they spent so much it simply won't be possible in this rights cycle.I'm not confident that the BT Sport channels will arrive on Virgin,I think BT are going to focus on building up a solid sports broadcasting brand ahead of preparing to go toe to toe with Sky the next time the rights are up for auction.
