Will Virgin match Sky prices?

Hi everyone (first post!)

I've been looking at moving form Sky to Virgin and currently pay ~£65 per month for TV, phone and Broadband. That includes unlimited anytime calls, line rental, HD (for F1) and 20mb unlimited broadband.

If I were to contact Virgin (or walk into one of their sales points) how likely am I to get them to match that price? The priority would be unlimited calls (the wife, need I say more?) and being able to watch F1.
Anyone have any experience of haggling with Virgin recently?

You tend to get better deals if an existing customer, but you could always call them and see what they can offer. Look at the bundles on the Virgin website. I doubt you can beat the £65 a month though.

And F1 only comes in SD and is part of the Sky Sports which will bump the price.

Cheers

Thanks for the input, guys. I'm not fussed about F1 being in HD, just that we still get it. It looks like I'll just need to talk to them and see what happens.

Indeed, its a buyers market, and all companies are about keeping subs, not letting them go.

If you are happy with SKY, and it is just a case of wanting to save money then go to their equivalent of retentions and explain that you like the package but money is tight, a competitor of theirs is offering a great deal, what could they offer you to stop you moving elsewhere.

It's worth a try, and be polite to them. They can only say they can't match it, but as said they will want to keep a subscriber.

Re: Will Virgin match Sky prices?

It's not the cost that I wish to change, it's the upload speed. I'm limited to less than 1mb with ADSL and BT won't be upgrading the infrastructure around here for a while yet, let alone Sky upgrading their kit.
I need to confirm with my landlord that he would be OK with the cabling and then I'll be giving them a call to see what happens.

Make sure you know what kind of service you'll be getting from virgin prior making the change. Plenty of food for thought here:
