Virgin Media moving away from Gmail webmail?
Heard rumours that Virgin may be switching away from Gmail as their mail/webmail provider soon.
Just a rumour but its feasible due to the fact the Google Apps stopped being free for business and Sky already made the move from Gmail to Yahoo. Its actually still in progress for Sky as they screwed it up in a big fail kind of way!
Yahoo doesn't have as many features as Gmail and is like a poorer cousin.
Anyone else heard anything about VM changing too?

Re: Virgin Media moving away from Gmail webmail?
Virgin mail has had a problem with contacts not loading since the end of February and if you look at the previous thread Virgin have stated this is with Google to resolve and which to date they haven't. I cannot believe that two supposed "giants" in the communications field cannot get this resolved so no doubt there is something else going on in the background.
You are of course correct in saying the Sky migration to Yahoo has been a disaster and I've had personal experience in trying to sort out my mate's account who is best described as "technically challenged!".
In this day and age I would have thought a solid email platform was a priority for any internet provider but given recent events I'm clearly wrong - again!

I dont use my Virgin mail and use Gmail instead. It means who ever my isp is i don't have to worry about my mail. However i did have a Yahoo account for a short while and it was hit with spam far worse than any other account i have had. I also like the easy to use layout of Gmail.

Not heard anything myself and to my knowledge Google Apps for Business was always pay. Google Apps Free Edition is discontinued to new signups which I use for my domain.
There is also Google Apps for ISPs which is also but how much VM pay for it I would not know.

Googe apps free has been discontinued? They said that before but there was a 'super secret, hidden link' to sign up
..I'll be honest though, I've got two domains I use regularly, one on google apps and one on live domains and Microsoft's platform is above and beyond the better experience

Yep officially it's discontinued, but after Googling there is apparently a way to sign up to the legacy free tier. Weather it still works is another question.
I have 2 domains on the free package that I was when it was an active tier and forward my virginmedia.com and legacy ntlworld.com e-mails to my Google Apps as well (for what it's worth as next to nothing mails to the VM/ntlworld addresses these days anyway).
I'm a tech hoarder and find it hard to delete anything

The BSkyB man also told us after publication that the media giant repeatedly informed its customers about the switchover from Gmail to Yahoo! mail. However, we've heard from readers who received no such messages from the company prior to the change.
The migration to Yahoo!'s servers, which happened with little or no warning for some users, was branded a total cock-up by Register readers. One thundered to us:
Not on Sky myself, but had a phone call from an elderly relative today: she'd turned on her little Windows XP computer to see it lock up when trying to download 8,000 emails dating back to 2008.
A BskyB spokesman claimed customers could easily learn more about the company's decision to shift from Google to Yahoo! by simply looking at Sky's user forums. Indeed, they are lit up with rage at the moment with some even complaining with caps-lock mode fully engaged to show how very angry they are.
But, when pressed, the Sky spokesman conceded that not everyone uses or is even aware of the company's online discussion boards.

Reading on the net a lot of people say they never got them, to be honest a lot of VM customers say they never get mails from VM. I feel its down to how well some customers have there email setup and if they bother to check it. An isp cannot be blamed for those customers who don't bother checking there mail to be honest.

I absolutely agree.
Offhand I can't think of any "added value products" supplied gratis by ISP's that are not second rate or worse. This includes news groups, hubs, AV, cloud services ETC........................
In the case of VM even the base product is second rate
