Re: Football Season 2012/2013

Whilst I agree the sacking of Martin O'Neill has come at a poor time, it was inevitable he was going to be sacked, vastly overrated manager who was given 3 transfer windows and a load of cash. In the end he spent poorly and failed to do his job adequately. Any manager willing to play Titus Bramble in Premier League football should not be managing a top flight club.

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

The new Sunderland manager has to first survive the drop and secondly spend wisely assuming they can spend this summer. O'Neill and Bruce have made poor signings for high fee's.

Sunderland need a much better scouting system and as much as it pains me in what's supposed to be an English league... they need foreign investment, if you're going to spend £14m on a Scottish striker then it's simple, there's 3-4 better players you could sign abroad for that total, I don't just mean one for £14m I mean all four..

It can be done too, there's no ''Who would go to Sunderland'' in it. Look at the French International's in our team. We're just as close to the drop and signed Debuchy and Sissoko in January. Whilst you could say we're pushing on a European front yes, that's not going to matter if we fail to keep our top flight status.

If I was appointed Sunderland manager I'd do the following.

1) Release Titus Bramble and any other crap like Cattermole etc.
2) Sack every scout on the payroll.
3) Re-build the scouting system from the ground up.
4) Sign youth from Foreign leagues as well as spend any money I had in transfer windows in properly scouted leagues abroad.

Onto Newcastle. It's just getting better on a financial front, Newcastle will be in their best financial position ever come the summer due to commercial deals and a number of things. A recent commercial deal has been completed but is being kept under wraps (I have no idea why) but said deal is quoted to being the biggest deal in the club's history but not quite as big as the top four.

Quote:
Last year, Newcastle United recorded an overall profit of £32.6m bolstered by the sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool for £35m. Now it has re-entered the list of the world’s top 20 revenue-generating clubs after increasing turnover to £93.3m, representing a 5.4% increase on last year.

Last night, managing director Derek Llambias said the company would be announcing another commercial deal before the end of the season.

He said: “Overall we’re very pleased. These accounts are boring so that’s a really good thing. We’re not in debt, this proves that we’re sticking to the model and that’s working.

“Our commercial revenues will kick in next year when our new Wonga deal comes in and that will be reflected in our accounts next year.

“We will announce another commercial deal before the end of the season. They are the biggest deals the club has ever had.

“They are nowhere near in comparison to the big boys, but for us we’ve achieved and punched way above our weight.”

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

Black Cats appoint Head Coach

Published: 31 March, 2013
by Sunderland AFC

Paolo Di Canio signs deal on Wearside.

Sunderland AFC have today announced the appointment of Paolo Di Canio as Head Coach.

The 44 year-old has agreed a two and a half year deal on Wearside and will take charge of the Black Cats from tomorrow (Monday).

Di Canio entered football management in 2011, taking charge of Swindon Town. During his tenure he guided the Robins to promotion and a Wembley final.

As a player he made more than 500 appearances, scoring over 100 goals. Beginning his career in his native Italy, he played for top sides Lazio, Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan before making a move to Celtic.

This was followed by stints in the Premier League with Sheffield Wednesday, West Ham and Charlton. During his time in English football he scored in excess of 60 goals.

Chairman Ellis Short said: “Paolo is hugely enthused by the challenge that lies ahead of him. He is passionate, driven and raring to get started.

“The sole focus of everyone for the next seven games will be to ensure we gain enough points to maintain our top-flight status.

“I think that the chances of that are greatly increased with Paolo joining us.

“Our fans have shown tremendous patience and understanding this season. They have continued to back the team in huge numbers, both home and away, and that is something that continues to inspire all of us in our drive to give them the successful club they deserve.

“That remains our primary aim.”

How pathetic can this news be.

Due to De Canio views freedom of Speech, David Miliband he resigns. I always believed that Labour had a proud tradition of freedom to say what you wanted.

Go on David get on the next boat or plane to the USA

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

Bloody hell Arthur, you would be moaning if he stayed at the club because he was condoning the political views of Di Canio, who is a self confessed fascist. Good on him for not wishing to condone the political views of such a man.

Wonder how much a first class ticket one way costs to America, and how long it would take us to have a whip round to buy one for Arthur to go with Miliband to America. I've got £30 to start us off.....
