It is important that people understand this.
It is important that people understand this is simply not true. It is against the terms and conditions that people sign up to - and therefore the company may cancel a users account.

This is ENTIRELY different from being illegal, which, in case you seriously don't know, means it is against the law. It is NOT illegal.

Agree - it's not illegal. Same way you can buy Region 1 DVDs with content intended for the US and play them on a multiregion player here - which is often "hacked" to get it to play R1 discs.

Followi9ng your post, I did a google search and it does appear that Lovefilm is a available in 5.1 on selected devices.

http://www.trustedreviews.com/lovefi...ormance_Page-3

I wasn't aware of that. They have a lot of catching up to do with Netflix though, as I think 5.1 is available on most devices, except the web site streaming, which is stereo and limited to 720P on Win 7.

Yes, I'd forgotten that. Multiregion DVD players are freely available to buy in the UK, and sold as Multiregion Players, not haked.

People don't think twice that it may be breaking any laws. People would think you crazy if you suggested that it was. I've been buying region I DVDs for years. Maybe I should send them all back?

On a PS3, Lovefilm provide what they call 'High Quality SD' - which is not HD. They put a HD on the film image when its true HD - Lovefilm PS3 statement

Lovefilm tell me that there is no 5.1 streaming at present - including on my Samsung App.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

If you subscribe to Amazon Local Deals, there's an offer to get 6 months of Lovefilm for £10, a value of £29.94.

Tempted to give it a go, but I heard a while ago it's a nightmare to cancel. Maybe that side of it has been improved recently?

I cancelled and they still charged, within 24 hours of emailing them it was fixed. Don't know what people class as a nightmare, I'd say more of a minor inconvenience.

Maybe not a HD channel to set the pulses racing, but good to see Virgin getting a HD channel from launch, hopefully a sign of things to come.

Well, if you are prepared to put your money where your mouth is, as you are doing, good luck with that.

At the very least, this is a breach of copyright but it is only a matter of time before someone puts this practice to the test.

People have this strange attitude that the internet takes you to a different place where normal reality does not apply. In time, you will see that I am right. The absence of prosecutions to date does not mean you are safe.

So where do you stand on the purchase of region 1 DVDs and playing them in the UK?

Owning counterfeit goods is not a crime or illegal either. Selling them is though.

I can't comment on that because I don't know enough about it. But if our UK DVD recorders play them, I would have assumed that it was lawful and the DVD was produced with the copyright issue sorted out. However, I have to say that I haven't looked into this so don't go by what I'm saying on that issue.

The copyright laws are really what you need to watch, because if you are breaching copyright, you can be sued. The fact that you've paid money for it is neither here nor there. People think that just because they've paid Netflix via Unblock Us, everything is hunky dory. But it's not!

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

Netflix might not care, but I think you're somewhat missing the point - in the case of hbo content (someone mentioned that some Atlantic content was available) Sky will be the injured party as they own the UK rights. Netflix saying "yeah, whatever, give us your money" really doesn't change that!
