Catty Sky leaflet
I just got a letter through my door with the quote " Lets give Virgin Media a call" on the envelope and guessed incorrectly that it might be Virgin trying to get me to add something else to my package.
No - it was from Sky. Basically it sounds rather churlish.
Front page of leaflet says " Good afternoon this is Virgin Media. How may i help you?" Then goes on to tell you all the ways that Virgin are not as good as Sky.
Seems to me that Sky cannot get customers based on the good things they provide and are therefore trying to get some from the few things Virgin do not offer which when you boil it down is Sky Atlantic - F1HD and the dedicated 3D channel (which of course you can only get when you have the entire sky package)
Oh Sky!

I got same thing, it will get banned.
VM pulled a similar stunt a few years ago; a padded envelope saying upgrade your satellite, it got banned.

I just mention my free V+ from the TiVo deal and they know they can't offer me a free multiroom box so they shut up.

This one by any chance:

SKY and Virgin are as bad as each other. Both will happily highlight their competitors weaknesses to sell their own services and products. The latest mailshot from Virgin highlights how poor SKY+ is compared to TiVo.
Both companies will continue these kind of campaigns as long as they prove successful.

Thing about the sky as well is the channels they are using against VM are channels they are refusing to sell to VM.

Re: Catty Sky leaflet
And that the issue was that the material wasn't clearly identified as promotional material, rather than the content.

Well they don't have to and they don't want to so it is unlikely yes.

Well, it's only what VM have said themselves, so I guess they are safe from the trade descriptions point of view!

It's true now, but who is to say that this isn't one final marketing push by Sky to woo VM customers over to the dark side before some of those channels become more widely available?
If I recall correctly there were rumblings that once the Sky Atlantic programming was available via Sky's Now TV then the channel would be wholesaled to other platforms.

Re: Catty Sky leaflet
I imagine it is hard to ban an advert that has already been posted through my door but i understand the theory.
I feel that these adverts are insulting in a different way ie. that i did not realise there was another option and did not think through the pros and cons of each one first. Admittedly a lot has changed in the 6 years i have had Virgin but Sky have never offered anything i really can't live without. When i first joined we didn't even have Sky one and i managed quite well.
