I still feel it is unfinished, what with the non hd menus and still sluggish response. Then the fact that you can't make your own folders for organising recordings or better control of the express link. Also the apps are a joke, to the point I don't even use them! The menu navigation is slow that navigating on demand is a nightmare.. Then you have Youtube which is a slow clunky piece of crap and unusable for me.

I agree TiVo should do a lot more like the US TiVo boxes

Despite the fact I agreed with you on the day Liberty announced their intentions to buy, the TVDrive/V+ has been in the system since 2005 and is only being phased out now (and as per Chad's thread they're still selling them to a small degree) they're getting the most out of the current products which is a lot cheaper than replacing people's boxes at their own expense.
Anyway, IPTV will be the norm in ~5 years and both the Virgin TiVo & Horizon will need to be replaced.

The apps certainly need to be updated. Why have an ebay app that you can't sign into?
Spotify ought to be updated as well to include a search function.

While I agree with you in regards to the poor choice of apps I do have to wonder how wise a move adding the likes of Lovefilm , Netflix and other OTT providers is to a pay TV platform , I'm sure its possible for them to coexist however there's also an element of risk to the pay TV platform in my opinion , the risk in my opinion is greater to lower tier customers who could potentially subscribe get hooked to the services and decide there's no need to sub to pay TV and take a direct subscription with the OTT provider on another device.

Ours does a lot more than the US TiVo. And in fact many features VM added have now been added to the US software.

They'll need replacing in less than 5 years simply because technology moves on. Each STB typically only has a life of 2 to 3 years.
Incidentally, TiVo already supports IPTV.

I can see no reason why the HD menus wouldn't be added to VM's Tivo, though they have not been available for that long on the US Tivo and it must take some time to port them to the VM Tivo.
If they don't appear on the VM Tivo, then it may be a sign that the future of Tivo on VM is uncertain?

It's safe to say nobody does. It will depend on performance over the next few years.

The thing that I really want, which the HD menus will bring, is to still have the mini TV screen there when you go in to the currently SD menu screens, such as planned recordings.

That's where the TiVo IPad app is great, I can set and delete recordings without effecting the TV picture though the app needs a few different updates
1. Set new favourite channels
2. Having the deleted folder in my shows to undelete programmes

Well, VM could send me a free ipad instead of doing the HD screen update. I don't think I would mind too much
