You may as well include the RTÉ digital radio channels under the RTÉ radio listing, they are probably as likely / unlikely to appear as the rest:

http://www.rte.ie/digitalradio/index.html
We can only get the RTE Radio Channels that broadcast in the UK on other networks. As far as I know only the following are broadcasting in the UK:

-RTÉ 2fm
-RTÉ lyric fm
-RTÉ Radio 1 (Also Broadcasts in Ex-Telewest areas).
-RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta

From what l know ITV is increasingly putting a lot of their on demand content behind the paywall.

Well, not whichever way you look at it, muppetman. You could take the view that VM introduced HD channels with no extra charge. I certainly don't recall prices going up to account for HD channels (except for Sky Movies and Sky Sports).

Even with SM and SS, I am no longer charged extra with the VIP Collections package I have just signed up to.

Obviously, the costs are taken account of by VM in some way, but I think they are still correct to say that they don't charge extra for HD channels.

I don't blame them, but what are VM doing to make those facilities available to us? And where is Lovefilm/Netflix? I like the direction that VM are taking us but it takes oh, so long!

Indeed it can seem like a 1500 metre snails race sometimes and as far as Lovefilm/Netflix are concerned it seems we are still on the first lap.

Media Boy, first of all, thanks for all your hard work on giving us all the info.

On your comment regarding BT Sports, you say that these channels will start on VM in July - has this been confirmed yet.

re TV5: you may find this enlightening.
I don’t disagree. I’m just suggesting if and when ESPN drops out of the XL package most customers will identify XL as a HD package more than anything else. It’s a view that’s already building momentum here and on other forums and social networks.

The story about French people moving to London was interesting. Surely they would try and get a satellite to watch home programming prior to subscribing to the XL package just for TV5?

I think the issue for VM with Lovefilm/Netflix is that it conflicts with their On Demand stuff. Ie currently you pay VM for a film, if they make Netflix/Love Film available as an app, there is nothing in it for them as all the revenue goes to those companies

Not confirmed yet.

BT hope to get the go-ahead to take over ESPN by July 31st.

ESPN did launch on August 3rd 2009 so BT may launch their on August 1st 2013.

I'm not sure that's true. It would be a bit like saying that when a book is sold in a bookshop all the money goes to the publisher and the bookseller gets nothing. I'm certain if such a deal was to be in place VM would get a nice slice of the money we subscribers pay. I take you point about any Lovefilm/Netflix deal detracting from VM's own on-demand offering. That sounds like it might be the real reason any such deal is taking so long.

The only RTÉ channel officially broadcasting to the UK is RTÉ Radio 1 (LW) - presumably the reason for Telewest taking this channel.

There's no reason why VM should be restricted by RTÉ's legacy arrangements with Sky. All RTÉ radio channels are now available on Saorsat and Saorview, RTÉ has chosen not to incur the additional expense of simulcasting on Astra / Sky. It's debatable whether they will choose to continue simulcasting the channels you have mentioned on Sky when their current contract expires.

RTÉ geo-restricts any content not intended to reach the UK on their on-line RTÉ Player / RTÉ Radioplayer - The digital radio channels are made available to UK listeners, which is why I suggested that you include them for completeness. Ultimately, it's your decision. In all probability, VM will either continue to carry RTÉ Radio 1 without adding any other channels or it will drop the channel completely. Not a big deal considering they are all available on-line in any event.
