Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

I feel a little sorry for VM. There are channels i would like to see on my Tivo like everyone but the current contents is ok.

Universal HD is good news and whilst the addition of new channels is not prolific we still get them. Eurosport 2 HD was another welcome recent addition.

We get a large (and increasing) catalogue of HD content at no extra charge (unlike Sky) and the ESPN channels (for now)

whilst it is easy to bash VM it is Sky who are the villians for me. I am sure VM would love to add Atlantic,Sky Sports 3 & 4 HD Sky Sports News HD etc but it appears Sky want too much for them. This is a deliberate ploy to keep channels back for themselves. They know if VM met their price then it could only afford to do so by passing the cost on to us. I bet we would all welcome another price hike!!!! NOT! VM's problem is since their sold thier channels off a few years ago they are no longer a channel provider and this has weakened their position.

What annoys me about Sky is that they see VM as purely a competitor and treat VM and us (VM Subscribers) with disdain. They want to dominate the world and destroy VM in the process. The thing is not everyone wants a dish, or cant get a comparable BB service (like me) and anyway OFCOM wont allow Sky to be the only player in pay digital tv. Instead they should see VM as a means to expand viewers of its channels.

Whilst Sky make more money from its own subscribers (buying their equipment etc) they also make money VM customers who have their services. Surely Skys advertising income would increase if more people had access to the likes of Atlantic etc. But 'greed is king' Sky dont seem bothered. But if we pay for Sky Movies/Sports are we not their customers as well in some way?

If Sky wanted VM to have Atlantic, all the HD sports etc they could make it happen if they wish. We only got sports 1 and 2 Hd and the sky sports red button because they had to give it to us. For me the fault for the lack of certain channels lays at Skys door as much as VM's.

The issue with the ITV HD channels puzzles me a bit though. Surely ITV relies on its advertising revenue so would be keen to get its channels available on as many platforms as possible you would think. They are FTA channels after all. Is this another influence of Sky ?

well said but if sky have infact invested in order to obtain hd version you can see some justification to keep the exclusive for a short while,But sky sports 3+4 hd is just plain greed

And what content exactly is it VM subscribers are missing out on ?

As far as I'm aware the only content Sky have as exclusive is Sky Atlantic the rest can be viewed by VM subscribers the only difference being some is only available in SD , there's nothing stopping VM/Liberty Global from forming an exclusive entertainment channel and distributing it solely on cable.

Yes, but they aren't FTA, ITV launched the additional HD channels as pay tv channels in a deal with Sky. I would imagine part of that deal was that they were exclusive to Sky.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/t...ls-on-Sky.html

ITV probably don't feel there will be a massive impact on advertising revenue as anyone wishing to view the content still has access to the SD version.

Other than the fact that the deal hasn't been completed at this stage?

It's not realistic, VM had HBO content on demand before Sky Atlantic appeared on the scene. Sky just made HBO an offer they couldn't refuse and gained exclusive access to the content as a result. If VM get into a bidding war for content, they probably won't win... and even if they did win, they would have paid too much and their customers would end up paying over the odds.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

Liberty could extend their agreement with CBS and have all new CBS shows exclusively in future, then have CBS1 as exclusive channel/negotiation tool on all their european cable platforms.
