Re: Tesco is voted the least popular supermarket.

I found that life is too short to be switching between retailers.
I click, my goods are delivered and anything else can wait. Unless it's something I want so much that I'd make a journey for.
Trused farmers market? Local established butcher? Back garden? Yes please. Well worth the effort? IMO yes.

Re: Tesco is voted the least popular supermarket.

I worked in the food industry for about 10 years and i know first had that the rubbish that goes into a tesco ready meal is the same that goes into an M&S/Waitrose meal, comes out the same kettle just with different packaging, they're all as bad as each other

Re: Tesco is voted the least popular supermarket.

I use Tesco as it is near to where I live but I am finding Morrisons to be the best for fresh food and variety of products.

Re: Tesco is voted the least popular supermarket.

I have most of the major stores in my town (no Waitrose or Morrison), and the only one that has put anything about the Horse meat problems is... Tesco.

We've shopped there for over 40 years and never had any problems.

---------- Post added at 20:16 ---------- Previous post was at 20:15 ----------

What people don't realise is that most of the home brand stuff comes out of the same factory.

Our local Sainsbury got done for having Tesco own brand cornflakes with there own brand.

Re: Tesco is voted the least popular supermarket.

If we have to use a supermarket it's Sainsburys, but normally will use 'local' shops for bread, meat (though Mrs G is veggie so don't eat that much) veg etc. Prefer to buy locally produced products if poosible and the supermarkets just can't compete in such a niche market, and the bread from the bakers is just so much better than the mass produced stuff.

I know we're lucky and don't have to worry about keeping to a budget, but we also feel we're doing our bit to help support local businesses.

Cheers

Grim

Re: Tesco is voted the least popular supermarket.

Morrisons and Aldi are the ones we use. I normally always check the damaged stock shelves for certain items like tinned food or toiletries... we can save a few quid doing that.

We'll be trying out Asda as soon as it's finished being built, just over the road from Morrisons and Aldi.

Re: Tesco is voted the least popular supermarket.

For all Morrisons plaster the store with offers, watch out for increases.
I don't mean 5p or 10p, more like 20p+ on lots of essentials.
Fresh meat is a prime example, just have a look at a couple of bills over a monthly period.

Our local is a co-op, and its still cheaper to drive to the local Tesco.

Re: Tesco is voted the least popular supermarket.

Being retired we can shop around, we use all the supermarkets EXCEPT Tesco. Don`t like the place at all, & don`t like the prices.

Re: Tesco is voted the least popular supermarket.

Use "local" independent shops for meat, veg & bread. go to next village ( ok now are suburbs but locals still say Whitchurch village) to go to an independent pharmacy - we only have Boots & Lloyds . Mainly use Asda for the rest check the prices each week on the price checker. Most weeks they are over 10% cheaper than Tesco , Sainsburys etc.The figure can be £`s less .Some time just fall less than 10%.Then get voucher for the difference.

Would not want to be thought of as that.
My wife thinks on long the lines -Con artists. A few years ago she used to buy an item on a weekly basis, noticing a steady price raise week on week ( At the time could not find it else were). Then it was a half price offer- back to were it started out from, before the price rises. Stopped using them after that

Re: Tesco is voted the least popular supermarket.

Our local tesco superstore has the well earned nick name of "Chav Central"
And it's true, I've only been there twice since it reopened and the people in there were quite scary.
One woman walked in wearing pink pyjamas, fluffy pink bunny slippers, with a cigarette in one hand and shopping cart in the other.
The first time I visited there were stereotypical "hoodie chavs" parading around outside the main entrance, swearing and shouting
Not a nice environment to visit, let alone work in I'd imagine.

They all do that. Some more blatantly than others perhaps.

Yes we have noticed with a certain brand of sausages that were half price at £1 a few months ago and now a few months later they are offering them again at half price and the price this time is £1.50.
