Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.
To be fair, Virgin haven't really tried to make it sound exciting. The bit about channel changes is tucked away at the bottom of the release -
"And finally we are moving things around for the following channels on January 31st Universal moves from channel number 162 to 137 Universal +1 moves from channel number 163 to 138 SyFy +1 moves from channel number 166 to 136"
and reads to me as informative rather than sensationalist. Of course, the reaction of some who've read it might make it seem like a big deal but you can't blame Virgin for that.

Had a look and it us as you say, there for information. Just with an added PR twist to make it sound better which really isn't needed. You can tell customers channels have changed without making it sound like a polished turd.
The package changes are a big thing and leading to something interesting no doubt.
New channels though...apart from some HD version of channels (know they are appreciated) I can't actually see any new channels beside local Bbc, let alone exciting.

Do you ever read the responses to your posts, Arthur? You have raised this same question over and over.
The +1 channels are good for viewing/recording clashes. If you don't like them, don't watch them.
Channel space is not currently an issue for Virgin Media and this is not the reason for having fewer channels than you would like.

Fairly typical really, Bauer do appear to have a track record of being around for the negotiations but heading for the exit door before the deal is closed.

And why keep on adding channels that no one has heard of or not interested in, it seems that VM just want top annoy customers.
|
There isn't a shortage of channel space, so there's no problem with adding +1s.
What are these many missing non-timeshift channels you feel everyone has heard of?

Damned if they do, damned if they don't. I seem to remember VM being criticised for failing to communicate news of these changes to their customers. When they do communicate, they are criticised for shouting it out loud.

There's no shortage of space, but is it not possible that the money spent on the carriage deals could have been spent on new, rather than timeshifted, content?

No one doubts that the info is useful and glad it is being passed on. Was just questioning the way it was done, as if it was something special. Exciting new channel changes in 2013! kinda thing
I am amazed how many channel changes actually happen. Tend to browse the programme guide on the stb or an android app based EPG which changes the channel too, so only know the changes happen from announcements or reading it on a forum like this.

My view is just the channels on my list plus Shopping channels from the owners of the shopping channels that broadcast on Virgin TV right now (Ideal World, QVC and Gems TV) IS worth having.
All the rest of the channels that broadcast on Astra or Eurobird (Sky) are what I call 'Poor man TV' or 'Call me (If you are over 18) TV'

I think you are starting to believe Arthur . VM have only added two +1 channels in the past year, both hugely popular. (More popular than any other channel not currently carried by VM)

Is this a sign that Virgin will charge for HD in the future? XL and XL HD being different packages?

Maybe they are doing it to distinguish between customers who have the XL pack but don't have a HD Compatible box. Just incase anyone with an old V box thinks they can get the new HD channels.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.
BSkyB has 10.33m TV customers and reported six-monthly pre-tax profits up 7.5% to £642m to 31 December, beating most analyst expectations. The number of customers taking high definition TV rose 93,000 to 4.56m of its total customer base. Revenue rose 5% to £3.5bn in the six months to the end of December. Average revenue per user rose £24 year on year to £568. Churn rose slightly from 9.6% at 31 December 2011 to 10.3% at the end of last year.
Sky should give a big thankyou to vm helping them obtain these great results for
1.Hefty price rise (still awaiting justification)
2.TV anywhere (I pad streaming channels a joke) for being a poor version of sky go
3.HD channels-Vm still ignorant to what customers want
