Re: BBC HD now shows regional news!

This applies to satellite platforms also, but so far only for BBC Nations. There are no English regional variations in HD yet.

Re: BBC HD now shows regional news!

Only need ITV to do the same and can dump the the awful picture SD channels for good!

Anyone know if that is on the cards?

Just thought I need BBC 2 to go to 187 as well.

You are unlikely to see any change with ITV, as there may be 17 regional news programmes, but no longer 17 regional centres.

ITV were in the process of rationalising the entire network into 'Super Regions' along the lines of which the HD regions are now to save money. Last year they backtracked and decided to keep the 17 news programmes. However, they have already closed some regional studios, and get round this by pre-recording some of the news programmes, then putting out live and recorded programmes simultaniously from the same studio through different network circuits. Duplicating these feeds to provide HD to a seperate sub-regions transmitters (and obtaining addtional satellite capacity) just for 2 -3 hours a day of programmes would not be economic.

BBC HD is planned to become BBC2 HD in the near future.

Re: BBC HD now shows regional news!

Meanwhile, for those using satellite rather than Virgin Media in Scotland, there is still no sign of STV-HD. It has been "coming soon" for rather a long time.
