It's not as simple as that though (sadly). As a non sports fan, I have thought that it is unfair that XL subs pay for a premiun channel that would cost extra on Sky; a channel that is of no interest to non sports fans. But presumably the reason that VM does that, is to get more overall subscribers to XL. If they got rid of ESPN 'for free' in the XL pack, there would doubtless be fewer XL subscribers, and therefore less revenue to spend on new HD channels anyway.
If that isn't the case, ESPN should be charged for separately as a premuim channel, but I suspect that it is.

Just saw an advert on Universal telling Virgin viewers it's moving to channel 137 next Thursday, so that's one confirmed move.

Yes, i've noticed that too, it's very unprofessional.

Very true.

I've said it before however that ESPN dropping out of XL and VIP could be a good thing. It would free up plenty of funds for Virgin to secure more HD and SD channels. Virgin could also invest in more on demand content and TiVo apps. For non-sports fans, this would be fantastic.
|
I would imagine that the true cost is very low per XL subscriber as VM have effectively bought subscriptions in bulk. Even so, it probably earns ESPN more revenue than having far less subscribers at full price.

This matter is now in the hands of the Cable Forum Team. I have been asked not to discuss this on the public boards, so this subject is now closed between ourselves. In fact, please don't contact/address me on this site ever again either in public or in private.

Mods - can we have a clear definition of what is on and off topic for this thread?
Yes I realise the irony of this post, but it's getting harder and harder to filter out the crap from the real 'coming soon' stuff
|
This issue has arisen previously in the past and it was decided by the site owner/s that this thread be given more leeway than the others.

I will not be putting you on ignore for legal reasons.
I refer you to post 727 and, out of respect for the Cable Forum Team and the participants of this thread topic, now regard this matter as closed in open forum.

It is against Site T&Cs to discuss, or hint at, content of PMs in an open forum - repetition of this behaviour will invoke the infraction system.

I smell a SD/HD merge like Sky, or knowing Virgin SyFy +1 is 197 or something.
