Cheap Router ?

Hi I have always been aware the Superhub has poor wireless speeds but never been a real issue for me as I have the house hard wired.

However I have just got a new laptop which is wireless only & no surprise the wireless performance is rubbish. I have a Home server which stores all the media so good network performance is key.

I was considering the high end Asus routers that seemed to be well respected & reviewed but then came across this Tenda N60 Wireless-N600 Dual band Gigabit Router.

As I say the core computers in the house are connected via a 24 port Gb switch so all I need it for is the wifi for the laptop. On the face of it this Tenda seems like good value.
Can't seem to find much info on the net so wondered is anyone has one of these & if so is it any good ?

Uses the same chipset and hardware as the Linksys E4200, bar the 300Mbps instead of 450Mbps 5Ghz wifi.

At that price, you can prolly afford it to go phut and then get an ASUS. Not that it will.

A lot of people will be looking forward to your eventual review because Â£30 for a dual band wireless router (assuming it has the necessary WAN-LAN throughput which Qasi implies it will) looks promising.

frankly I thought for that price if it's ok I may consider getting a second .. I have always tried my best to avoid wifi but now have 4 smart phones in the house and and 3 laptops
2 of which despite supporting "n" I always tend to plug in (heh I have network ports all over the place) but of course it would be nice to be wire free.
I have also been accepted by VM for the future trials due to start around Feb & thought there might a be a glimmer of hope this could inc. a revised superhub but that's another conversation :0).

Been reasonably happy with my Tenda W311R (an N150 device) - currently available at ebuyer for a miserly Â£9.99 - same model was at my useless local computer shop for over 40 quid... sometimes I look in there for a laugh, guess there's enough noobs to keep the guy in business.

OK so messed about with the Tenda N60 router at the weekend, I used modem mode to start with but I had trouble setting it up with my server, & bearing in mind the core requirement was to improve wireless upstairs so I added it as a second router, the default IP was different from the superhub so just connected it upstairs to the wired network changed the SSID etc. and bingo.. speeds are now good getting between 150 -270Mbs before it would typically be 65 -100 ish. & of course I now have the option for dual band so 5g as well. not to mention the wireless load can be split between the routers. I'm not really technical enough to know if this is the best way to set it up but it all seems to work. Â£35.00 delivered easy to set up & so far seems to work a treat.

It's not the best but it is the easiest. The main limitation is port forwarding and roaming between the two networks may not work seamlessly.

Glad you're having success with the N60 though. I'm tempted to try it myself, but simply don't have the time to code suitable firmware for it.
