Re: community payback
ok I have read the information I have no idea about this but perhaps if we saw the damage?
Did you have to sign anything when they finished? I remember a couple of years ago I had a fridge freezer delivered by kermit the frog and huggy bear. They wrecked it scratched the side on my door handle and dented it badly. I filled in the form saying what they did and arranged a return. Unfortunately for me because I was so annoyed at the damage they caused to the unit I missed the fact they had scraped a line in my lino flooring. I complained but as I did not mention it on the delivery note they just denyed it and I got nowhere

Ill explain more this is a community payback scheme called sacro to give reformed criminals a chance to aviod jail and help others. The supervisor said bedroom paint was great but it not finish, loads missed and wall paint to thin, carpet below a door varnish on it, they admitted spillage of turps on duvet i was told to pay a dry cleaner, then didnt tell me they ruined ,y chest of drawers with turps, i bought in way to much paint and varnish on there advice, does that help

Re: community payback
hmmm I would not have let them in my house. Community service is one thing when they tidy gardens streets and clear graffiti but to decorate my house no way. They were obviously underqualified and by the sounds of it worked in a slap dash manner. I would chase for compo on damages I would use some of the turps to soften the varnish on the carpet and get that up and I would finish the jobs left undone myself. No way would I let them back in
Is it a solid wood chest of draws and did the turps lift some lacquer off it ? could be recoverable quite easily in theory?

Re: Community payback
It may help if there is a copy of the agreement online to read as i bet there is a clause absolving the company of alot of liability simply because they where not and must not be expected to be tradesmen .As far as i know (and i admit to not knowing a lot but have heard of them )they are attempting to train people in basic skills like decorating and gardening but you should never expect the quality to be very good.Having said that i would expect damage to your possessions and property to be rectified by the company

I have to pull you up on that there mate. Decorating is not a basic skill. I worked in the trade and there is an art to doing it right. 99% of DIY is not done even close to a professional standard

I meant basic as in to a diy standard not a professional standard .Lets face it a lot of people don't "do" decorating these days they get a man in whereas my mum and dad always did there own and where quite good but it would show against a professionals. The same as when a builder tries to fit a window i usually end up showing them why the window doesn't open when they have finished

Re: Community payback
Payback doesn't work, we had a load of them outside our house about 12 months ago, and they were supposed to clear leaves, they spent most of the time sitting on the pavement and smkoing, then they did any work.
They were not supervisoed, and we called the council and complained and about an hout later, some guy in a suit and moved them on.
Its a total waste of time, Its up to the court to issue out tougher sentences, and making them do work in peoples houses under supervision.
What they should have been doing is during this bad weather is going round putting sand down on the pavements etc.
