Politicians should consider banning high sugar children’s foods like Frosties and Sugar Puffs, according to Andy Burnham, the shadow health secretary.

What happened to informed choice? He's not suggesting a smoking ban, is that not bad for you too?

Not sure whether that’s sarcasm or not. I know it’s just an idea he is floating and MPs want to be seen to be doing something about the obesity crisis but I really don’t think it’s an MPs job to decide what we should and should not eat.

No it was not sarcasm because as we know with many things its usually the start of the slippery slope.

I wish we could ban self serving, idiotic, hypocritical, sleazeball politicians. That'd do far more for the nations health I reckon, by bringing down blood pressure and stress related illness.

Re: Politicians should consider banning high sugar children’s foods
High sugar cereals have been around for years, many marketed originally in the 1950's. They haven't 'suddenly' started causing problems with diet.
My recollection was that the likes of Frosties, Sugar Puffs & Ricicles were viewed as 'treats' because they were more expensive than their less sugary equivalents of Corn Flakes, Puffed Wheat & Rice Krispies - which didn't taste quite the same, even if (as I did) you added loads of sugar!!!
I totally agree with the 'educate not legislate' views already expressed.

Obviously another politician trying to show he does something, even if it is another crusade.

and wouldn't you know it is a labour mp (Andy Burnham) who is suggesting this .This is typical of socialist behavior ....legislate everything but fail to solve any problems .

People buy it... hence they make it.
Sadly, a lot of people don't care what kind of crap they feed their kids - no one in their right mind could ever think Frosties were healthy - and how anyone can seriously believe that breakfast cereal should 'turn the milk chocolatey' (different brand I know, but the principle is the same)
Banning things is always the best option as it saves addressing the real problem - that a bunch of people are too thick to work out what a balanced healthy diet is

So, our children are fat because they eat too much sugar in cereal? Not because successive governments and councils have cut spending on school dinners while also allowing a whole load of fast food takeaways to open near schools? Also not because a lot of parents would rather give their kids money than actually spend 5 minutes making a packed lunch?
