Quote:
Virgin Media has confirmed it’s investigating new technology that could deliver up to 10Gbps downloads without overhauling its network.
The cable provider could start trials in 2014, when new hardware for the DOCSIS 3.1 standard is expected to become available.

Quote:
It could deliver up to 10Gpbs downloads with 1 Gigabit uploads for business users, and up to 800Mbps for home users

By this do they mean a 10Gbps pipe for the entire country? Sounds about right.

I'll bite! VM Can't even give me a stable 10mbit connection, let alone 100x the bandwidth
The article only suggests that are trying docsis 3.1 which would give those maximum options, not that VM actually will push out such a product within the next few years.
Lots of could's in that article. They could start trials in 2014, then again they could not.

Re: Virgin Media investigates 10Gbps DOCSIS 3.1 connections
Customers hardware is likely to become a bottleneck at those speeds but even so, hard disks would be full after an hours use
Once the newer HD tv standard starts getting pushed out and the streaming services offer tv and films in that resolution, more bandwidth will be handy.

Oh it was an obvious bait, hence my taking the bite. Knowing I had posted on the forum in the last 30 minutes or so increased the chances somewhat too. That bet was like taking candy from a baby!
Glad I could be of service

Re: Virgin Media investigates 10Gbps DOCSIS 3.1 connections
understanding docsis 3.1 would be a good start before bashing the usual Qtx.

I knew enough to realise that 10Gbps is the standard speed of docsis 3.1 and not that VM will be offering it to their customers for a few years, if at all. Interesting from a techy point of view but we wouldn't want the less technical to be fooled into thinking VM will actually offer that. ASA may be able to slap VM for their misleading ads but they can't slap a VM employee who starts a thread, thats my job!
