Virgin Media problem, please help!
Hi, I require help.
I play Resistance 2 online, which is a PS3 online game OWNED by Sony.
My SuperHub is the main router and I cannot play Resistance 2 online at all. I get a lot of "establishing connection to game server timed out" or "timed out" errors. However, if I try to join a game room (created by another user) I can get into it after 50 tries or so, which is so bad and not normal.
However, if I use my laptop as the router (SuperHub being modem), I can play Resistance 2 online without any problem.
And the weird thing is that this problem never happened when I was on R35 or below.
I've sniffed the Resistance 2 game's online DNS / IP via Wireshark:

Hostname being resistance2-prod.igloo.online.scea.com and one of its IP address being 160.33.167.33 (one of the game servers).

There are similar IP addresses provided by the hostname and I've done tests on all of them and I was returned with the same errors (Destination net unreachable) and (request timed out).
The game servers are definitely not down. A lot of people still play Resistance 2 online without any problem. Resistance 2 online is owned by Sony.... and Sony is a big company, so it's very, very unlikely for one of thier Game servers to be down intentionally.
So, how can I fix this? And of course I've told Virgim Media about it but they don't know what the **** am I talking about. -_______-

P.S This issue never happened when I was on R35 or below. After R36, this problem exists.
P.S.S No, I don't want to buy a 2nd router or use my Laptop as the 2nd router for many reasons. I love my Superhub, it's just that I'm having only one issue and this is it.
P.S.S.S I've already tried different settings in the Superhub's router page, turning off Firewalls, DMZ'ing the PS3 and port forward the **** out of it. Turning off UPDP. I've also tried different combinations of settings. All didn't fix the problem. But then again, I could be missing something.

Despite your P.S.S., whether or not you want to buy a separate router, that is exactly what you should do in order to insulate yourself from future SuperHub screw ups.
There is an R37 firmware coming out, and it's probably prudent to see what that does first if you can last that long (no date has been given for the release, which is on field trial). In the meantime you're stuck with R36 and its instabilities.

This problem happened when R36 was released, which was... 5 months ago or so? As of today, I'm still trying to fix it. Goddamn, I must be the most patient person ever. I cannot live without Resistance 2 and my Superhub.
But seriously, what do you think that's causing my issue? A routing issue or something? Once I know the technical terms, hopefully I can refer them to the VM tech dudes.
I'm half British and I don't know why I'm talking like an American. So, sorry about that!

Half British is better than non-British!!
R36 is a well documented failure in this and on the VM forum. Actually, the SuperHub is a well documented failure since its arrival 2 years ago, albeit it's been OK for you up to and including R35.
I take it that you're connecting the PS3 by wire and not wireless?

Yep, that's correct. I've tried both (wired & wireless) and there were no difference at all.
Thanks for your reply... I guess I'll have to wait for R37 and see what happens, lol

firstly dude, when the shub is in modem mode your laptop isnt the router, it is just a device directly connected to the modem and heading off to the internet and thus no routing is occuring which avoids all the hassel of the shub. You can do one of two things; a) try putting your ps3 in the shubs dmz or b) avoid all future problems by keeping the shub in modem mode and buying yourself a proper router so you dont have to suffer these trivial problems.

lol, I didnt think about that. I read modem mode, laptop, then thought about game and PS3 and put the two together and made his laptop the PS3  Sounds stupid now but I didn't think twice when I wa typing it all out

I've literally changed every setting to give Superhub the lowest firewall protection possible (disabled every security feature) and allowed everything to be opened. Yet I still get timed out errors in the Resistance 2 game.
I'm sorry, let me clarify. If I connect PS3 to my Laptop and then Laptop to Superhub (IN ROUTER MODE), the Resistance 2 game will work without any error. I don't know why I said modem mode, sorry!
I had no problems with Superhub. Wireless connectivity / range are great, the speeds are great (higher than what VM advertises for - they say I get 60mb download, but I actually get 64mb download). I guess I'm lucky but this is the only issue I have so far (Resistance 2 online).
I have new information:
I've narrowed down things to what causes the issue. It has something to do with a pool of local IP addresses (VM superhub dhcp). It seems that if I use a LAN that has a different subnet (e.g. extra router, laptop or PC), the game will work....
However, that brings me to another question. If I connect my PS3 to Superhub (in MODEM MODE) and if I set the DHCP hostname to 192.168.0.1 (default IP) in the PS3 network setting, Resistance 2 online will work. But if I don't set the DHCP hostname, the Resistance 2 game won't work (even though I can play other online games).

Sorry, my bad. Ignore the last bit of my previous post. I meant that when I connect Superhub (in modem mode) to PS3, the Resistance 2 game will work without any error.

well it is definitely something to do with how the traffic is being passed through the shub. Regardless of whether you use the shub or laptop as the router by default I think they use the same 192.168.1.0/24 subnet so I wouldnt have thought that would make any difference. You could always try setting some static/reserved ips though and see if that helps. The shub will be 192.168.0.1 in router mode, you can set laptop to .2 and ps3 to .3. Ideally though you want to be connecting your ps3 diectly to one of the lan ports on the shub and not daisy chaining it to your laptop.
I have never used a PS3 before but are their any network info/settings you could look at to make sure it is seeing the shub as the default gateway?
