You may do. but this thread is specifically about the junk mail from Virgin Media.
Junk mail from any other company should have it's own thread.
a lot like when we talk about Christianity and someone comes along and brings Islam into it.
we weren't discussing Islamia.

that's one of the main reasons why it's addressed to the Householder/ Occupier.
simply because it's guaranteed to get to the victim that doesn't want it. and no rules have been broken in getting it to them.

Re: Virgin Media destroying the planet?
I have loads of these get around's as i call them, from Sky, BT, Orange you name it they all use "To the Occupier" to get around the request not to spam us.
However what i do is collect it all up and then pick on one of them and send the lot to them in a large envelope with "postage to be paid by ******". It just makes me feel better that they get the crap back.

Learn to read before you post rubbish.

1. This is un-addressed, general mail-shots. They cannot easily only post to specific addresses.

That's the whole point.

I'm sorry but what's "the whole point"? That VM - along with many other companies - send out advertising leaflets, some addressed and some not, in the hope that some of the recipients will be persuaded to buy their services and those that don't can just bin or recycle the leaflets?
So where's the problem again?

The PROBLEM is that i have requested that i do not get get spam mail via the CORRECT procedure, however to get around that request they and other send mail to my house as " to the occupier" therefor getting around the fact i said NO. Now is that CLEAR enough for you or would you like me to spell it out for you as well so you are not
i send it back to them with lots of other mail shots and get them to pay for it. And btw just because you dont mind the spam does not mean that we should not mind the spam

Re: Virgin Media destroying the planet?
I certainly get a disproportionate amount of VM junk mail compared to anything else. Certain charities are beginning to extract the urine, though.

If you now do not get any mail-shots from VM that are specifically addressed to you then the system has worked.
VM - and many other companies - have always sent advertising mail-shots in bulk to a load of addresses at once.
The two are entirely different things though you seem to be connecting them somehow. That is the only "problem" here.
Now if you want to set up a petition to try and get the law changed that says these things addressed to "the occupier", etc. have to be delivered then go right ahead. I might even sign it myself. But you cannot blame VM (or any other company) for using any marketing technique available to them to try and get more business.

And yet I get very little; though it does all seem to come at once.

As I said in my previous post; they are two entirely different procedures that some people seem, erroneously, to be connecting.

How has it worked when it's going to the same house that said they didn't want it?
or is you thinking that because they don't call you Carl, but Richard on the letter. then you're happy with it?
in simple terms they get told what addresses that don't want their junk. simply changing the persons name is intentional. and because they can filter the address, then we can go as far as harrasment.

You really don't get it do you, you honestly think that its ok for them to do this.
Here we go again even more of if CARL likes it then WE must like it as well.
However as long as they send it to me i will send it back to them in BULK with destination to pay

Carl.
why do you think you don't get to the Occupier/Householder from Virgin Media at the same time as To Carl from Virgin Media?
