Virgin Media destroying the planet?
On Watchdog today. about sending unwanted junk mail to people all over the country.
and getting around the mail preference service by addressing to 'The Householder' or 'The Occupier'
stop it Virgin. we're annoyed with the junk mail. and the amount of trees you have had cut down to make the paper!

What's worse they continue sending the crap even to existing customers who are already with VM, or those who've just left because of pathetically poor service.

1- This is a Virgin Media forum.
2- It's not just Jimmy that abuses kids. but we had a thread just about him.
3- If you had a complaint about Tesco's. you wouldn't post it in the Asda forum. would you?

I think they've cut down that many trees and have too much paper. so they don't care who they send it to. they just want to get rid of the paper so they can cut down some more trees

Re: Virgin Media destroying the planet?
Well as I haven't seen it I can't comment specifically about VM but I can point out that the whole of the business market is no better.
Everyday I get crap mail from just about the entire world trying to sell me stuff I don't want.I get endless leaflets and booklets from local firms AND the local government/council. I open a magazine and at least 6 leaflets/booklets fall out that are trying to get me to buy stuff I don't want.Even my bank stuff leaflets in my statements.
So I really think just pointing the finger at VM is a bit much.Everyone is doing it and I'm sick of it..

So SKY don't do those kind of leaflets, BT don't do it, other companies in other sectors don't do it? Total and utter BS, Virgin aren't the only ones to do it. I may also be the only one to never have had the junk mail from Virgin. Now if it was SKY or BT, then I get at least one of each every week.

I agree. that's why I'm onto Watchdog to ask them why they specifically picked on Virgin Media.
I think it might be because they showed Virgins advert sort of to say that they're passionate about cutting their carbon footprint and all the rest of that heart warming talk. and then they're sending people Kilos of paper a year.
and then the fact of them intentionally ignoring peoples wishes of not wanting junk mail from them by forcing them to have it by adddressing it a certain way to get around the wishes and rules.
and then the fact that people have contacted them to ask to be took off the list. one instance of where she gave them her name when requesting this, and they started sending it to her by name instead of where before it was Householder/Occupier.

How do you knw they've cut down trees? It may be recycled paper?
Anyway the printer of the leaflets would have to sign up to Virgin Media's Suppliers code of conduct

Nope. BT actually put an address on and stop when you tell them to. I've never had one from Sky.

Two points here.
1. This is un-addressed, general mail-shots. They cannot easily only post to specific addresses.
2. Any specifically-addressed mail is sent because you have (had) a previous relationship with the company. However, you can easily stop these by asking the company do remove you from their mailing database. This applies to any company.

Which, of course, was exactly the point I was making. Yet, as usual, I get shouted down for it.
Of course, round here I put all this paper into my bi-monthly re-recyclable waste collection

I can be diplomatic. I just choose not to be when faced with obviously nonsense comments
