Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
re the opening of some apps- eg.Chrome,
the app can open in two ways the normal old way, and the modern ui way(metro)
if I open chrome from the desktop, it has under the tools an option to start chrome in windows 8 mode.
I have changed the shortcut for chrome on the start screen to the desktop version,
so it doesn't open in the new modern ui mode.

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Well thanks to some information on how to get this for dirt cheap, I thought I would give it a try and actually it's not to bad.
Gonna give it a month to see how it goes.

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Guessing a few of you will have got the "upgrade" from here:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/buy
After purchasing, I'm assuming you get emailed your Product ID and you can download an ISO - is that correct?

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
You get a download for an 'assistant' that then lets you download it directly or the iso.

Ehh? Assistant? Yes - like the upgrade assistant - then you put your details in / payment and then is launches a download manager you mean which downloads the ISO?

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Either that or you can get it to install it straight away.

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
OK - so you can burn it to a USB stick / DVD and do a complete install like previous OSs - good.

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
these are upgrades so you have to have windows installed. All options no matter how you install ie off cd usb or direct you get the option to copy nothing giving you a clean install

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Ohhh....so you can't provide the original qualifying media when prompted like previous versions?
Guess I need a full copy for that - I ain't paying any more than £30 for a full copy though...Microsoft can go do one.

I'd rather do a complete straight Windows 8 virgin / clean install instead of ponying about installing 7 then 8 over the top.

you see that gift horse don't look at its teeth?
You do not need to perform a clean install if you have an existing install you just run the upgrade wizard select save nothing and you have a clean install

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion
Ah sorry I just re-read #204 and I get what you mean now. Lol. So basically the install of 7 is the qualifier for deleting and getting a fresh install go 8 anyway. Correct?
